BACKGROUND: Conservative surgical approaches, reconstructive techniques and technology are increasingly used in parotid surgery. The aim of this study was to determine the surgeon-modifiable factors which impact the rates of post-operative complications following parotidectomy for benign pathology.

Multifocal nodular oncocytic hyperplasia (MNOH) is a rare lesion of the parotid gland and bilateral cases are extremely rare. We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who was operated from MNOH 10 years ago and the bilateralism of the case appeared 10 years later making the case metachronous.

Objective:Evaluate the application value of modified rhytidectomy incision in superficial parotid gland tumor resection.Method:Seventy-one patients with tumor in the superficial parotid were included in this study from January 2012 to January 2015. A 70-year-old Caucasian man with multiple comorbidities presented with a painless lump over the right parotid gland which was gradually increasing in size over the preceding 12 months. There were no systemic symptoms or facial weakness. Imaging indicated a benign tumour of the right parotid. Superficial parotidectomy was performed and the histology revealed a sialolipoma.

Hamartomas of the parotid gland are highly unusual. We present a case of a vascular hamartoma of the parotid gland arising as a 1.5 cm mass in a 5-year-old girl. As far as we are aware, no other case with the same features has been reported. We present this case to generate greater consideration of hamartomas as part of the differential diagnosis of parotid lesions, and to reflect over the criteria used to identify a hamartoma from other parotid lesions, as there appears to be some confusion in the literature.

PURPOSE: To study the expression and significance of pericytes and TGF-β in infantile parotid hemangioma.
METHODS: The expressions of pericytes and TGF-β at protein level were examined in 76 cases of infant parotid hemangioma by strep avidin-biotin complex (SABC) immunohistochemical technique. All statistical analysis were performed using SPSS 13.0 statistical package. The relationship between the expression of pericytes and TGF-β and clinical phase of hemangioma was analyzed by using Chi-square test. Kappa test was used to determine the relationship between pericytes and TGF-β expression.

OBJECTIVE: We report a case of benign intranodal neurilemmoma, an extremely rare tumour arising from a nerve sheath within a lymph node.
CASE REPORT: A 67-year-old woman underwent surgery for a left-sided parotid mass. Histopathological analysis revealed a tumour arising from a lymph node within the superficial lobe of the parotid gland. The tumour demonstrated histological features of an intranodal neurilemmoma.

This is a case presentation of a 51-year-old patient, with a giant parotid tumor on the right side (18 x 11 cm on the longer, cranio-caudal axis, 950 g), with an extremely slow evolution, since 1978. There are no clinical signs of malignancy within the tumor. A total parotidectomy with conservation of the facial nerve and a cervico-facial plasty were performed. The pathological result indicated a pleomorphic adenoma with central malignant foci. Such cases are rare in the literature, approximately 12 similar cases.
