A 67-year-old man was found to have a metastatic tumor of left adrenal gland originating from the left renal pelvic and ureteral cancer. Histopathological findings of the renal pelvic and ureteral cancer indicated transitional cell carcinoma, which was the diagnosis for the adrenal tumor. Diagnosis of cancer of the renal pelvis and ureter with metastasis to the adrenal gland before operation is very rare. A review of the literature on the metastasis from cancer of renal pelvis and ureter was made.

A study was made of 170 patients with renal pelvis or ureteric tumours, 160 of whom underwent surgery between 1948 and 1981. The most important aetiological factor was chronic phenacetin abuse: 21.7% of 83 patients with renal pelvis tumours and 11.4% of those with ureteric tumours gave a history of phenacetin abuse. The latency periods ranged from 24 to 26 years. This is the first report of a relationship between abuse of analgesics and urothelial tumours from the Federal Republic of Germany.

It is now possible to identify and study the performance of different subgroups of patients in in vitro fertilization (IVF) programs. Patients with severe pelvic adhesions due to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or endometriosis were classed as having a frozen pelvis if less than or equal to 20% of total ovarian surface was visible and if the rest of the ovary was bound down with significant adhesions. Based on case report the value of urine cytology after renal pelvis lavage for the definite diagnosis of a renal pelvis carcinoma is demonstrated. The exact preoperative differential diagnosis permits a radical operative procedure without intraoperative tumor exposure decreasing the danger of spread of tumor. The simple and inexpensive technique should be applied in the urologic practice more often.

Critical analysis of 53 cases of Malgaigne fracture of the pelvis was undertaken at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, over a 10-year period (1968-1978) with particular emphasis to immediate and late complications. Thirty patients were followed from 2 to 12 years after injury. Eleven patients were asymptomatic. Eleven had paresthesias of the lower extremity on the same side as the fracture. Dosimetry studies, employing a model, were conducted under the technical conditions established by one of the authors for exploration of the infant and child pelvis during diagnosis and treatment of congenital dislocation of the hip. Based on this data, it was confirmed that the dose applied to the various organs of a patient can be evaluated by using a relation identical to that employed for calculating the dose during radiotherapy. A lifetime history of analgesics and tobacco consumption was obtained by a questionnaire completed at interview from 67 patients with carcinoma of the renal pelvis (40 women, 27 men) and 180 control subjects drawn from two sources, friends of patients and persons attending a health screening clinic. Regular consumption of analgesics conferred a tenfold relative risk of renal pelvic cancer in women and in men a risk ratio of 4-8.
