OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of polyethylene terephthalate implants in the soft palate to modify disturbing snoring.
DESIGN: Interventional study, before-after trial.
SETTING: Referral center, institutional practice, hospitalized care.

Many haemophilia patients were infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) in childhood after transfusion with inadequately or non-virus inactivated clotting factor products. Limited information is available on the clinical course of HCV infection in children. Regional variations in intrapartum myometrial contractility were assessed using ultrasound. In 10 women with normal labours, the myometrial thickness increased in all areas during contractions, whilst in 10 women with slowly progressing labour, the retro-placental myometrium thinned during contractions. Three otherwise healthy private pilots were licensed with the restriction to fly "as or with safety pilot" because of a left bundle branch block (LBBB). Whether a pilot with this conduction disturbance is allowed to fly unrestricted depends on invasive diagnostic procedures. Above age 40, cardiovascular risk in subjects with LBBB becomes high enough that a flying license should be withheld. A protocol for licensing in LBBB cases under age 40 is given, relying on non-invasive diagnostic procedures, taking into account intermittent occurrence, electrical axis, and duration of QRS complex.

OBJECTIVES: To pilot brief reproductive health counseling for women obtaining pregnancy testing in a managed-care setting who did not desire pregnancy.
METHODS: Women received counseling, access to contraception and a booster call at 2 weeks. Changes in contraceptive behavior were evaluated.
