Predicting adolescent conduct problems: A machine learning approach using early family and child predictors.

Early recognition of predictors of adolescents' conduct problems is crucial for timely intervention. The use of traditional regression models, however, is limited in the ability to identify non-linear relationships between predictor variables. This study employed multiple machine learning algorithms to predict adolescent conduct problems from earlier family and child functioning variables, comparing algorithm performance to identify which methods and early indicators most accurately forecast later problems. Data from 242 families were analysed using eight machine learning algorithms. The algor

Improving sport horse selection using machine learning: Early prediction of elite-level show jumping performance.

Early identification of sport potential in show jumping horses remains challenging because competition outcomes vary widely, and elite-level performance develops after considerable time. In this study, we evaluated the applicability of machine learning approaches to competition records from horses identified through FEI participation, complemented by national-level records from Sweden, Belgium and France, with the aim of identifying horses likely to reach elite performance. Performance data from Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) competitions were analysed using an Extreme Gradient Boost

Machine learning with hyperparameter optimization applied in facies-supported permeability modeling in carbonate oil reservoirs.

Most carbonate reservoirs exhibit heterogeneous pore distribution, whereby the matrix displays low permeability, thus impeding the flow of oil. On the other hand, highly permeable fractures function as the main flow conduits within such reservoirs. Permeability measurements are obtained from core and well test analysis, which are too expensive and not available for many wells. Therefore, accurate permeability prediction is a vital step in developing an efficient field development plan, as it plays a pivotal role in the accurate distribution of 3D petrophysical properties throughout a reservoir

Embryo ploidy status classification through computer-assisted morphology assessment.

BACKGROUND: Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy has been proven to be effective in determining the embryo's chromosomal or ploidy status. The test requires a biopsy of embryonic cells on day 3, 5, or 6 from which complete information on the chromosomes would be obtained. The main drawbacks of preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy include its relatively invasive approach and the lack of research studies on the long-term effects of preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy. OBJECTIVE: Computer-assisted predictive modeling through machine learning and deep learning algor

Predicting reactive stepping in response to perturbations by using a classification approach.

BACKGROUND: People use various strategies to maintain balance, such as taking a reactive step or rotating the upper body. To gain insight in human balance control, it is useful to know what makes people switch from one strategy to another. In previous studies the transition from a non-stepping balance response to reactive stepping was often described by an (extended) inverted pendulum model using a limited number of features. The goal of this study is to predict whether people will take a reactive step to recover from a push and to investigate what features are most relevant for that predictio

Physics-constrained machine learning for impedance-based measurement and sound absorption prediction of composite acoustic materials.

Accurate prediction of sound absorption performance in composite acoustic packages is critical for acoustic material characterization, noise control engineering, and the rational design of acoustic functional materials. However, establishing a precise mapping between material microstructure and sound absorption behavior remains a fundamental challenge in this field. Here, we propose a physics-informed machine learning framework for predicting the sound absorption performance of composite acoustic materials. An acoustic mechanistic framework incorporating the Johnson-Champoux-Allard (JCA) model

Optimizing predictive performance in heart disease diagnosis with stacked wrapper pre-processing techniques.

Heart disease prediction utilizes machine learning methods to estimate the probability of a person developing heart disease, considering various medical and lifestyle factors. These factors commonly include age, gender, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, smoking habits, diabetes status, family history, and physical activity. In real-world medical datasets, patient information may be missing or incomplete, which can hinder accurate predictions. Heart disease datasets often have more negative samples (people without heart disease) than positive ones. This imbalance can lead to biased models tha

Dual knowledge-guided data augmentation for robust clinical prediction models.

Domain shift poses a critical barrier to adopting medical artificial intelligence (AI) models, a challenge that is particularly acute in data-scarce, single-source domain generalization (SSDG) settings. Conventional data-augmentation techniques, including Mixup and input masking, fail to leverage the rich structural information and expert knowledge inherent in clinical data, causing models to overfit by learning spurious correlations. To address this, we propose a dual knowledge-guided data augmentation framework that enhances model robustness by systematically embedding clinical expertise int

Machine Learning for Optimizing the Optical Propertiesof Quantum Dots.

The application of machine learning (ML) to the synthesis of quantum dots (QDs) represents a significant innovation in material optimization. Due to the quantum confinement effect, the optical properties of QDs can be tuned by controlling the size of the material during synthesis, but this traditionally requires a long time of experimental synthesis practice. ML is an efficient approach that analyzes databases of synthesis variables to predict final properties, thereby reducing the experimental effort required. Supervised and unsupervised models play complementary roles, in this context, helpi
