The experience of loneliness among people with a "personality disorder" diagnosis or traits: a qualitative meta-synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Loneliness is prevalent among people with a "personality disorder" diagnosis or who have related personality traits, but the experience of loneliness among people with "personality disorder" diagnoses/traits has not been well described. A qualitative approach has potential to help understand the experience of loneliness among people with "personality disorder" diagnoses/traits, and to develop interventions that promote recovery. We therefore aimed to synthesise the qualitative literature relevant to this topic. METHOD: We conducted a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies exploring

A randomized controlled trial of motivational interviewing as a tool to enhance secondary prevention strategies in cardiovascular disease (MICIS study).

Physical activity/exercise has consistently been shown to improve objective measures of functional capacity, enhance quality of life, improve coronary risk profile, and reduce mortality for individuals with coronary heart disease. Despite the gains achieved by those who attend cardiac rehabilitation (CR) many individuals fail to maintain lifestyle changes. The aims of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness of motivational interviewing as a strategy for promoting maintenance of cardiac risk factor modification in patients who had participated in standard, 6-week outpatient CR programs. Why is the Incidence of Type 1 Diabetes Increasing?

Type 1 diabetes is a condition that can lead to serious long-term complications and can have significant psychological and quality of life implications. Its incidence is increasing in all parts of the world, but the reasons for this are incompletely understood. Genetic factors alone cannot explain such a rapid increase in incidence; therefore, environmental factors must be implicated. Lifestyle factors have been classically associated with type 2 diabetes. However, there are data implicating obesity and insulin resistance to type 1 diabetes as well (accelerator hypothesis). Cholesterol has als

Health-related quality of life, self-reported impairments and activities of daily living in relation to muscle function in post-polio syndrome.

BACKGROUND: The symptoms of post-polio syndrome (PPS) and its resulting disabilities can affect quality of life and the ability to perform daily activities. No study has comprehensively analysed how various patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are associated with objectively assessed physical function in patients with PPS. AIM: To investigate health-related quality of life (HRQOL), self-reported impairments and activities of daily living during 6 months and evaluate their association with clinical muscle function outcomes in individuals with PPS. METHODS: Twenty-seven patients with PPS

Long-term psychological and sexual outcomes of severe penile hypospadias repair.

INTRODUCTION: Hypospadias is the most common penis malformation, and there exist a variety of surgical approaches used to correct the abnormal position of the meatus. Although the long-term outcomes of surgery are considered important for psychosexual development, only a few attempts have been made to evaluate patient satisfaction. AIM: The aim of our study was to evaluate surgical results and psychosocial adaptations in a homogeneous group of subjects with severe penile hypospadias who underwent the same types of surgical repairs during childhood and compare the results to data obtained from

Full genome viral sequences inform patterns of SARS-CoV-2 spread into and within Israel.

Full genome sequences are increasingly used to track the geographic spread and transmission dynamics of viral pathogens. Here, with a focus on Israel, we sequence 212 SARS-CoV-2 sequences and use them to perform a comprehensive analysis to trace the origins and spread of the virus. We find that travelers returning from the United States of America significantly contributed to viral spread in Israel, more than their proportion in incoming infected travelers. Using phylodynamic analysis, we estimate that the basic reproduction number of the virus was initially around 2.5, dropping by more than t

Survive, revive, and thrive: The impact of COVID-19 on global park visitation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had detrimental effects on both the physical and psychological well-being of individuals. Throughout the pandemic and in response to various policies, such as lockdowns, movement restrictions and social distancing measures, parks and greenspaces received renewed attention as people used them to help cope with the adverse effects of the pandemic. This study explored the factors influencing park and greenspace visitation at different stages of the pandemic in 2020, 2021, and 2022, from both global and regional perspectives. Data were collected primarily from Our World i

Determinants of coping styles of people with Parkinson's Disease.

Little is known about how people with Parkinson's disease (PD) cope with stressful life events. We examined the determinants of specific coping strategies and whether specific choices have any impact on quality of life (QoL). We recruited patients with PD who had been seen at a neurology outpatient clinic at least once during the past year as part of the PRIME-NL cohort study. Coping was measured using the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ) and QoL was measured using the Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39). 977 out of 988 participants completed the questionnaires and 935 participants we

Peculiarities of personality adaption to psychological traumas in neurotic disorders.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: It is known that anticipatory processes play a leading role in the regulation of behavior. These processes act as a leading mechanism of the link in the mental regulation of behavior and activity. Violation of processes anticipates to a mismatch in the work of the adaption system, and, as a result, to maladaptive behavior. However, many issues related to the detection of anticipation disorders in various manifestations of diseases have been insufficiently studied. The features of individual prognosis depending on diseases are studied here. MATERIALS AND METHODS: As part of

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the well-being of individuals with persistent postconcussive symptoms: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, public health measures were implemented that closed essential businesses, mandated social distancing, and imposed substantial changes to the routine care experienced by patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and persistent postconcussive symptoms (PPCS). Patients with PPCS often rely on a comprehensive care team, requiring in-person treatments and consistent care. Little information exists regarding how access to these services have been affected by public health measures and what outcome the measures have had on the recovery of patie

Jeopardized mental health of children and adolescents in coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak became a worldwide pandemic in 2020. Social distancing measures, such as self-quarantine, lockdowns, and school closures, which have proven efficacy in various pandemic situations, remain in use in Korea. These measures prevented viral transmission to some extent; however, adverse effects have also resulted. First, the negative effect of social isolation on mental health is evident. This influences the psychiatric milieu of parents and children directly and indirectly. The most stressful factor among Korean youth was the restriction of outdoor a

Challenges and opportunities for enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) in light of COVID-19.

UNLABELLED: In the past few weeks, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has dramatically expanded across the world. To limit the spread of COVID-19 and its negative consequences, many countries have applied strict social distancing rules. In this dramatic situation, people with eating disorders are at risk of their disorder becoming more severe or relapsing. The risk comes from multiple sources including fears of infection and the effects of social isolation, as well as the limited availability of adequate psychological and psychiatric treatments. A potential practical solution to address some

[Endoprostheses for stump formation after hip disarticulation].

BACKGROUND: Hip disarticulation is a psychologically and physically demanding procedure. However, it remains a therapeutical option whenever limb salvage proves impossible due to sarcoma, severe implant-associated infections or trauma. The stump lengthening procedure (SLP) is a surgical technique that allows partial salvage of the thigh through endoprosthetic proximal femur replacement after hip disarticulation, depending on the amount of viable soft tissue coverage. This leads to a more appealing visual appearance, facilitates prosthetic fitting and significantly improves limb function. OBJE
