The patient was a seventy-seven-year old woman, who was diagnosed with advanced gastric cancer with stenosis of the esophagocardiac junction. Her cancer was diagnosed as Stage IV (T3N3H0P3M0). As there was no indication for surgery, radiation therapy (Linac electron beam, 1.8 Gy/day, total 50.4 Gy) was selected to improve the stenosis, after which she was able to eat food. Subjective complaints such as nausea and vomiting were also decreased, promoting her QOL. We conclude that radiation therapy treatment can be a treatment option for far advanced cardiac cancer.

The necessity is substantiated for use of apiphytoproducts in patients with duodenal ulcer who had become victims of Chernobyl accident. Apiphytoproducts were found out to accelerate the natural elimination of cesium radionuclides from the body, to normalize the indices for lipid peroxidation; they can be used on a monotherapy basis or combined with antisecretory or anti-Helicobacter drug preparations.

The frequency of micronuclei was determined in the bone marrow of female BALB/c mice treated with various doses of chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CPZ) before exposure to 4.0 Gy of gamma radiation at 24 h post-exposure. In animals treated with CPZ alone, the frequency of micronuclei increased with the increase in drug dose. A similar pattern was observed when the mice were exposed to 4.0 Gy radiation after CPZ treatment. The dose response curves thus obtained for the CPZ treated and CPZ + irradiated groups were linear quadratic.

The role of melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH) as a mediator of the melanogenic response to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) was examined in C57 BL/6 mice. While exposure to UVR (250-300 nm) for 7, 14 and 27 days increased tyrosinase activity in epidermal melanocytes of the ear MSH had no effect and failed to alter the response to UVR. We reviewed 284 choroidal and ciliary body melanomas treated with 50, 60, 70, or 80 gray equivalents (GyE) of helium ion radiation. Multivariate methods of data analysis were used to adjust for differences between dose groups with respect to the characteristics of patients (and their tumors). Radiation dose level did not affect survival, complications, visual outcome, or tumor regression in this model. The minimum radiation dose necessary to achieve tumor control with charged particles may be less than 50 GyE.

281 patients with a total of 463 symptomatic osseous metastases treated for palliation between 1975 and 1985 have been retrospectively analysed. The most frequent primary sites were breast (50.1%) prostate (16.6%) and lung (11%), accounting for more than three fourths of all metastatic areas.
