BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of photodynamic therapy (PDT) using two photosensitizers, methylene blue and indocyanine green, on the microtensile bond strength of a universal adhesive to caries-affected dentin.
METHODS: The occlusal enamel of 60 third molars was cut to expose the inner one-third of the dentin. Artificial caries were induced through a pH cycling process. The samples were divided into three groups: M (Methylene blue+ diode laser), I (Indocyanine green agents+ diode laser irradiation), and control. Each group was further divided into two subgroups according

This article presents a clinical protocol to reconstruct two accidentally damaged maxillary central incisors using composite resin material and a fractured tooth component. A patient was referred to the clinic with fracture of the two maxillary central incisors. Clinical examination revealed that both teeth were fractured in the middle third of the crown and that the fractures involved enamel and dentin with no pulp exposure. The patient had also suffered a lower lip laceration. When the lip was evaluated, a fractured fragment of the maxillary right central incisor was found inside the wound.

A 40-year-old male patient elected orthodontic correction of his crowded anterior teeth, leaving multiple root exposures and spacing in the papilla areas. Connective tissue surgery did not satisfy the patient's expectations and led him to seek alternative treatments. An innovative technique was developed to achieve root coverage and fill-in spaces in the papilla areas. This noninvasive technique used a polymer ceramic material that was bonded to the crown and root surface of the individual teeth. The veneer restorations were inserted on the teeth as a solid unit, then separated into individual

The composite reinforcement technique has been used clinically to salvage damaged root-filled teeth compromised by caries, trauma, developmental abnormalities, internal resorption and iatrogenic causes. This clinical case report describes the use of the technique to reattach a fractured fragment in a compromised endodontically treated root besides reinforcing it for continued function in the mouth. Factors of clinical importance related to this additional application; including reattachment of tooth fragments, post crown retention, coronal microleakage and fracture resistance and strength, are

In the last years several dental adhesives have been developed. They are supposed to chemically adhere to dentin and a liner to protect the pulp is not used. The aim of this study was to compare the short-term pulpal reaction, in an intra-toothpair study, between a dental adhesive, Scotchbond 2, and a lining system, Tubulitec, in combination with P-50 in surface-sealed cavities. Deep buccal cavities in 16 human pairs of premolars, 32 teeth, were restored in vivo with a light cured composite resin, P-50. To minimize bacterial contamination all cavities were treated with a cleanser, Tubulicid, a

Improving the adaptation of resin composites during placement is necessary to increase durability and reduce microleakage. Flowable resin liners have been introduced to improve adaptation in composite restorations. In addition, a device that lowers the viscosity of regular dental composites has been introduced (Calset, AdDent Inc, Danbury, CT, USA). This device lowers the viscosity of composites by preheating them to 54.4 degrees C, which should lead to improved adaptation. This study compared microleakage in Class II composite restorations prepared using: 1) preheated resin composite, 2) unhe

This narrative review underscores the powerful role of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), also known as Electron Spin Resonance (ESR), in characterizing drug delivery systems (DDSs). Using drugs or probes tagged with spin labels, EPR provides detailed insights into structural and dynamic properties, as well as the molecular microenvironment (including micro-viscosity, micro-polarity, and micro-pH) and enables real-time monitoring of drug release and degradation processes both in vitro and in vivo. In nanomedicine research, EPR can also serve as a quantitative tool to track the fate of DDSs

Vital pulp therapy, including direct pulp capping and partial and full pulpotomy, is primarily indicated for immature or mature permanent teeth with reversible pulpitis. Mature permanent teeth with irreversible pulpitis are frequently treated with root canal therapy. This report presents two cases of full pulpotomy using BiodentineTM in mature permanent teeth with irreversible pulpitis and acute apical periodontitis. The periapical radiograph illustrated a deep carious lesion extended to the pulp with apical radiolucency lesion or widened periodontal ligament space. Full pulpotomy with a trica

BACKGROUND: The Epiphany endodontic obturation system, which was developed for use with all current root canal-filling techniques by substituting for gutta-percha and sealer, has been recently modified by eliminating the priming step and introducing a new self-etch, dual-cure, resin-based sealer; Epiphany SE. As with all new endodontic compounds, this novel material should undergo preliminary testing for biocompatibility. The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro cytotoxicity of Epiphany SE and to compare it with the original Epiphany sealer and with a commonly used endodont
