The comparison of the thickness of the cementum layer in Type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic patients.

It has been suggested diabetes plays an important role in tooth loss. Studies examining the periodontal structures and the alveolar bone architecture in diabetics have revealed some alterations. However, mechanisms responsible for these alterations have not been elucidated completely. Established relationships between the cementum layer, which is resistant to resorption, and diabetes are few in number. The aim of this study was to compare the thickness of the cementum layer in Type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic subjects in order to improve the understanding of dental mobility in Type 2 diabetes

From Horizontal Root Fracture to Implant Rehabilitation: A Case Report.

Traumatic crown-root fractures involving previously endodontically treated anterior teeth can present substantial restorative difficulties, particularly when the fracture line extends below the alveolar crest and compromises the remaining tooth structure. Preservation of the alveolar ridge following extraction is essential to facilitate future implant-supported rehabilitation and optimize aesthetic outcomes. This report describes the management of a 17-year-old male who presented with pain and mobility of the maxillary right central incisor following dental trauma. The tooth had undergone prio

Anatomic conditions for bypass surgery between rostral (T7-T9) and caudal (L2, L4, S1) ventral roots to treat paralysis after spinal cord injury.

Severe spinal cord injuries cause permanent neurological deficits and are still considered as inaccessible to efficient therapy. Injured spinal cord axons are unable to spontaneously regenerate. Re-establishing functional activity especially in the lower limbs by reinnervation of the caudal infra-lesional territories might represent an effective therapeutic strategy. Numerous surgical neurotizations have been developed to bridge the spinal cord lesion site and connect the intact supra-lesional portions of the spinal cord to peripheral nerves (spinal nerves, intercostal nerves) and muscles. An immunohistological study of the localization of bacteria invading root pulpal walls of teeth with periapical lesions.

We immunohistologically examined the prevalence and localization of bacteria invading dentinal tubules of the roots of teeth with infected canals. Forty extracted teeth with apical lesions were selected and divided into two groups: a group of untreated teeth and a group of canal-enlarged teeth. The bacteria in the specimens were detected by Brown-Brenn stain and the labeled-streptavidin-biotin method with specific antisera for 16-bacteria. Seventy percent of the examined teeth showed bacteria invading the dentinal tubules of the roots. Fusobacterium nucleatum, Eubacterium alactolyticum, E. nod

Evaluation of Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG and diode lasers irradiation on radicular dentine fatigue strength using modified endodontic laser tips.

Laser-assisted endodontic treatments have gained popularity over the last decade. This study evaluated the flexural strength (FS), fatigue resistance, and surface characteristics of root dentine after laser-assisted endodontic protocols. Forty extracted, caries-free canines were used to prepare root dentine beams (n = 37/group). Beams were irradiated with (1) Er:YAG 2,940 nm (20 mJ, 0.3W, 15 Hz, 50 ms), (2) Er,Cr:YSGG 2,780 nm (2.25W, 50 Hz, 140 ms), and (3) 940 nm diode laser (1W, CW). The non-irradiated beams served as control group. Both erbium groups were treated with laser-activated irrig

Inhibitory effects of retinoids on vascular endothelial growth factor production by cultured human skin keratinocytes.

Intrusive luxation is a type of recognizable luxation injury represented by a deeper axial displacement of the tooth toward the alveolar bone. Treatment strategies include waiting for the tooth to return to its position, immediate surgical repositioning, and repositioning through dental traction by orthodontic devices. The aim of this case report was to present the management of severe dental trauma and later restoration following IADT. A 20-year-old patient was presented after fainting at home four hours before, resulting in a dento-alveolar trauma. Clinical examinations revealed a traumatic
