This classroom-based mixed-methods quasi-experimental study examined whether AI-assisted student-centered instruction was associated with changes in adolescents' academic self-concept and self-reported communication competence. Six intact classes were assigned to either the AI-assisted instruction or the usual student-centered instruction condition. The intervention embedded AI-supported prompts into a structured learning cycle comprising individual inquiry, peer discussion, teacher clarification, and self-evaluation. Of the 186 recruited students, 174 were retained for quantitative analysis.

PURPOSE: To evaluate caregivers' experiences and outcomes following attendance at a patient-centered group-based self-management program called "Living with Low Vision."
METHODS: Participants were caregivers of adults with low vision. A pre-post study design evaluated the impact of the program on single-item indicators that assessed levels of understanding of low vision, awareness of devices, aids and practical strategies, and questionnaires to assess confidence to deal with low vision, self-efficacy, and emotional well being. Participants formed three groups: (1) those who attended the progr

OBJECTIVE: Sufficient self-esteem is extremely important for psychosocial functioning. It is hypothesized that hearing-impaired (HI) children have lower levels of self-esteem, because, among other things, they frequently experience lower language and communication skills. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare HI children's self-esteem across different domains with those of normal hearing (NH) children and to investigate the influence of communication, type of education, and audiological characteristics.
METHODS: This large (N = 252) retrospective, multicenter study consisted of two

Social change and development influence the motivational factors of people's sports participation, exposing the need for socialization and interaction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the interaction pattern of the urban running community and the behavior pattern of runners with the help of social interaction theory, and to explore the inner connection between their community movement and social interaction. Ten senior members of marathon urban running societies were selected to conduct two rounds of in-depth interviews which were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis to und

Telerehabilitation (TR) has gained attention as a promising rehabilitation format. Our study examined how patients responded to TR and whether it provided adequate support for their lifestyle changes and self-care efforts when compared to conventional rehabilitation (CR). Cardiac patients (n = 136) were randomly assigned to a TR or CR group. The TR group was provided with relevant health care technology for a period of three months, and both groups filled in questionnaires on their motivation for lifestyle changes and self-care psychological distress, and quality of life at 0, 3, 6, and 12 mon

BACKGROUND: Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) is a treatment targeting cognitive difficulties in psychiatric disorders. CRT has been used with patients with severe anorexia nervosa (AN) in individual and group formats. Research of group CRT in AN is limited.
METHODS: Evaluation of a series of CRT groups delivered in inpatient and intensive daycare services was performed. Participants' self-reported cognitive flexibility and central coherence, as well as motivation to change were assessed pre- and post-group. Additionally, patients' evaluative feedback was collected after completion of the g

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: It has been proposed that self-efficacy plays a critical role in the onset and maintenance of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This study aimed to test if increasing perceptions of self-efficacy using a false feedback technique about coping abilities prior to a trauma-film paradigm lead to a reduction of visual intrusions over the course of 6 days.
DESIGN AND METHODS: Healthy participants recruited from the community were randomized to a high self-efficacy (HSE, N = 18), low self-efficacy (LSE, N = 21), or neutral self-efficacy (NSE, N = 23) conditions.

BACKGROUND: Self-help programs without therapist involvement for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are promising, but the high dropout rate is a significant issue. Our software, which incorporates entertainment elements, showed a completion rate of over 80% in a pre-post comparison study, with superior effectiveness. This is the protocol for a study that aims to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a video-based mobile application for OCD treatment through a randomized controlled trial.
METHODS: This study is designed as a randomized controlled trial with two parallel group comparison,

BACKGROUND: Suboptimal adherence to oral anticancer agents (OAAs) reduces therapeutic benefits among patients with gastrointestinal tract cancer. Self-regulation is an important mechanism to foster behavioral change, but little is known about how to utilize this mechanism to enhance adherence.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary outcomes of an education program to promote self-regulation in managing adherence to OAAs.
METHODS: A 2-arm pilot randomized controlled trial was adopted. Twenty-four participants were randomized to the con

A growing body of research has revealed that labeling an emotion, or putting one's feelings into words, can help to downregulate that affect, as occurs with intentional forms of emotion regulation, such as reappraisal and distraction. We translated this basic research to a real-world clinical context, in which spider-fearful individuals were repeatedly exposed to a live spider. Using a between-subjects design, we compared the effects of affect labeling, reappraisal, distraction from the feared stimulus, and exposure alone during this brief course of exposure therapy on subsequent fear respondi

Pathological Gambling (PG) has been linked to both specific personality traits and personality disorders (PDs). However, previous studies have used a wide variety of research designs that preclude clear conclusions about the personality features that distinguish adults with PG from other groups. The current investigation seeks to advance this research by using a sample including adults who do not gamble, who gamble socially, and who exhibit PG, using self-report, informant-report, and interview-rated measures of personality traits and disorders. A total of 245 adults completed measures of gamb

The efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is clearly demonstrated in the treatment of panic-disorder with agoraphobia (PDA). Between 70% and 90% of people with PDA obtain an higher global functioning level after CBT, yet symptoms remain in 10 to 30% of participants after treatment termination. The goal of the present study is to find which variables have an effect on different CBT modalities (individual, group, self-help) for persons with moderate and high PDA. Eighty-four persons were randomly assigned to one of three treatment modalities. Evaluations were made before treatment, imme

BACKGROUND: Although most anesthesiologists will have 1 catastrophic perioperative event or more during their careers, there has been little research on their attitudes to assistive strategies after the event. There are wide-ranging emotional consequences for anesthesiologists involved in an unexpected intraoperative patient death, particularly if the anesthesiologist made an error. We used a between-groups survey study design to ask whether there are different attitudes to assistive strategies when a hypothetical patient death is caused by a drug error versus not caused by an error. First, we

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) has multiple advantages over other dialysis modalities. As a home-based therapy, it allows patients to keep their autonomy, avoid frequent hospital visits and carry on with their usual lifestyle. However, as a self-care therapy, dependency has been traditionally considered a contraindication. However, assistance to perform PD (asPD) can be provided regardless of the patient's age and the duration of such help. This paper is aimed at reporting on assisted PD use in a Spanish Center, and is the first report on asPD from this country.

INTRODUCTION: This randomized controlled trial (NCT05633498) compared the effects of a self-help book for coping with shift work (intervention) with an active control condition consisting of sleep hygiene advice among healthcare workers.
METHODS: Data were collected from 199 healthcare workers (100 in the intervention group and 99 in the control group) with shift work disorder (SWD) (86.9% females, mean age 39 years). Participants completed questionnaires on SWD and sleep, a knowledge test about shift work, turnover intention, self-reported sickness absence and work-related fatigue at baselin

This study examined the impact of AI-supported Chinese language instruction on engagement and self-efficacy among Malaysian university students. A quasi-experimental intervention with two instructional groups, an AI-supported teaching group and a traditional teaching group, was employed using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. The three-month intervention involved 100 undergraduate students. Measures of engagement and self-efficacy were collected before and after the intervention to examine changes within and between groups. Mixed-design ANOVA revealed significant Group × Time int

BACKGROUND: Although approximately 23% of anorexia nervosa (AN) patients have concomitant autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it is clinically difficult to determine ASD coexistence in patients with eating disorders. Restrictive AN is more common in younger patients and self-induced vomiting usually appears during adolescence/young adulthood, in order to prevent gaining weight caused by overeating. However, some patients are tolerant of weight gain even if they start overeating. It is important to understand the essential difference between those who vomit and those who do not vomit. In this study

In this randomized controlled trial, 108 women with binge-eating disorder (BED) recruited from the community were assigned to either an adapted motivational interviewing (AMI) group (1 individual AMI session + self-help handbook) or control group (handbook only). They were phoned 4, 8, and 16 weeks following the initial session to assess binge eating and associated symptoms (depression, self-esteem, quality of life). Postintervention, the AMI group participants were more confident than those in the control group in their ability to change binge eating. Although both groups reported improved bi
