The purpose of this study was to compare the exit rates and migration pathways of 51Cr-labeled lymphocytes from the peritoneal cavity into the blood with those of a non-motile cell population, 111In-RBCs, in order to determine whether lymphocytes actively migrate from the peritoneal cavity. Serum samples from 2000 cows, 3311 sheep and 638 goats from Iran were examined for antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii by use of the latex agglutination (LAT) and indirect hemagglutination tests (IHAT). Antibodies to T. gondii were found in 24.50% sheep and 19.25% of goats. Antibodies to T. gondii were not detected in cow sera by LAT and IHAT in 1:8 and 1:64 dilutions of bovine sera, respectively. Toxoplasma gondii was not found in tissues of 300 aborted fetuses from cows by direct microscopy and bioassay in mice.

A total of 20 cattle and five sheep out of a larger group of animals that were experimentally challenged with virus as part of the required protocol for a vaccine trial developed clinical signs of rabies. A survey incorporating field and abattoir studies was carried out on the prevalence of Dicrocoelium dendriticum in sheep and goats in the Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh (India). On western blots, this antiserum recognises a pair of bands of high molecular weight identical with those seen with another polyclonal Ki67 antiserum and the MIB 1 monoclonal antibody. The effects of subclinical fasciolosis at various stages of its development on bile flow and bile acid secretion and on the hepatobiliary transport of bilirubin were investigated in experimentally infected sheep. Information on 4049 cases of sheep blowfly strike on 495 farms in England and Wales was gathered in a longitudinal survey conducted in 1991. The breech was the most commonly infested area, accounting for 70.9% of all strikes recorded. Body strikes accounted for 19.7% and foot strikes 11.4% of all strikes. Four male sheep were studied 12 months after an autoaugmentation omentocystoplasty (AAOC). The prevalence of trypanosomosis was studied during April-June 1991, in sheep and goats kept peridomestically in Alkaleri and Gombe local Government areas of Bauchi State in Northern Nigeria. An outbreak of Haemophilus aegyptius infection in a livestock farm located in Maya, Oyo State, Nigeria is reported. Diagnosis was based on clinical signs of central nervous system disturbance, histopathological findings of meningoencephalomyelitis, acute multifocal necrotising purulent hepatitis and the isolation of Haemophilus aegyptius from the spinal cord. Other diseases that can cause nervous disturbance are discussed.

The effects of excess dietary sulphur were studied in sheep supplemented and unsupplemented with thiamine. The clinical findings, pathology and mycology of a cluster of 5 ovine cases of rhinocerebral and nasal zygomycosis caused by Conidiobolus incongruus are described. All cases were in Border Leicester or Merino x Border Leicester ewes from a flock pastured in a low-lying paddock adjoining a small tidal river in subtropical Queensland (latitude 28 degrees S). These cases of zygomycosis are believed to be the first infections due to C incongruus recorded in animals other than humans. The effects of Arctotheca calendula (capeweed) on digestive function in the rumen, caecum and colon of sheep were studied. Three groups of 2-year-old Merino wethers were compared: 13 grazing capeweed-free pasture for 23 days; 8 fed 700 g of lucerne hay daily for 18 days, and 13 fed 6 kg of freshly cut capeweed (dry matter 11.3%) daily for 7 days.
