Vicinal support vector classifier using supervised kernel-based clustering.

OBJECTIVE: Support vector machines (SVMs) have drawn considerable attention due to their high generalisation ability and superior classification performance compared to other pattern recognition algorithms. However, the assumption that the learning data is identically generated from unknown probability distributions may limit the application of SVMs for real problems. In this paper, we propose a vicinal support vector classifier (VSVC) which is shown to be able to effectively handle practical applications where the learning data may originate from different probability distributions. METHODS:

Prediction of depressive disorder using machine learning approaches: findings from the NHANES.

BACKGROUND: Depressive disorder, particularly major depressive disorder (MDD), significantly impact individuals and society. Traditional analysis methods often suffer from subjectivity and may not capture complex, non-linear relationships between risk factors. Machine learning (ML) offers a data-driven approach to predict and diagnose depression more accurately by analyzing large and complex datasets. METHODS: This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2014 to predict depression using six supervised ML models: Logistic Regression, Random F

Machine Vision for Real-Time Intraoperative Anatomic Guidance: A Proof-of-Concept Study in Endoscopic Pituitary Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Current intraoperative orientation methods either rely on preoperative imaging, are resource-intensive to implement, or difficult to interpret. Real-time, reliable anatomic recognition would constitute another strong pillar on which neurosurgeons could rest for intraoperative orientation. OBJECTIVE: To assess the feasibility of machine vision algorithms to identify anatomic structures using only the endoscopic camera without prior explicit anatomo-topographic knowledge in a proof-of-concept study. METHODS: We developed and validated a deep learning algorithm to detect the nasal s

Vibration, current, torque, RPM dataset for multiple fault conditions in industrial-scale electric motors under randomized speed and load variations.

This article presents a comprehensive dataset acquired from two fault diagnosis environments: (1) industrial AC motors operating under various real-world conditions, and (2) belt-loosening scenarios in HVAC air handling units. The dataset was collected to support the development and validation of data-driven fault detection methods across diverse mechanical and electrical systems. For the AC motor dataset, faults were deliberately introduced to simulate common degradation modes, including coil winding faults, inter-phase short circuits, misalignment, and bearing-related issues such as rolling-

Precision Care in Cardiac Arrest: ICECAP (PRECICECAP) Study Protocol and Informatics Approach.

BACKGROUND: Most trials in critical care have been neutral, in part because between-patient heterogeneity means not all patients respond identically to the same treatment. The Precision Care in Cardiac Arrest: Influence of Cooling duration on Efficacy in Cardiac Arrest Patients (PRECICECAP) study will apply machine learning to high-resolution, multimodality data collected from patients resuscitated from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. We aim to discover novel biomarker signatures to predict the optimal duration of therapeutic hypothermia and 90-day functional outcomes. In parallel, we are deve

Tensor-Based ECG Anomaly Detection toward Cardiac Monitoring in the Internet of Health Things.

Advanced heart monitors, especially those enabled by the Internet of Health Things (IoHT), provide a great opportunity for continuous collection of the electrocardiogram (ECG), which contains rich information about underlying cardiac conditions. Realizing the full potential of IoHT-enabled cardiac monitoring hinges, to a great extent, on the detection of disease-induced anomalies from collected ECGs. However, challenges exist in the current literature for IoHT-based cardiac monitoring: (1) Most existing methods are based on supervised learning, which requires both normal and abnormal samples f

Mapping Non-Homologous Pocket Compatibilities to Identify Hidden Drug-Target Relationships: A Pocket Hopping Framework.

Predicting small molecule-protein interactions across nonhomologous proteins remains challenging because shared ligand recognition is often not evident from sequence, fold, or pocket similarity. Here, we introduce pocket hopping, a machine-learning framework that learns residue-level interaction patterns from coligand binding pockets and infers compatibility between nonhomologous pockets for similar chemotypes. Using shared ligands as supervision rather than explicit geometric alignment, pocket hopping identifies pocket relationships that are not readily captured by conventional chemical-, seq

Artificial Intelligence-Based Predictive Modeling for Aortic Aneurysms.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) remain a major concern to the global society because of the associated risk of rupture and death. Currently, the management of AAAs entails clinical and imaging risk factors, which are not precise and accurate in terms of patient-specific risk assessment. Over the last decade, the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms has transformed the process of decision-making in the field of medicine by allowing for the creation of personalized models based on the patient's characteristics. This review aims to discuss the current

High-risk pregnancy prediction using Taguchi-optimized machine learning methods and TOPSIS-based model selection.

High-risk pregnancies pose a major challenge in maternal and neonatal healthcare, defined as conditions where medical, social, or obstetric factors threaten the health of the mother or fetus. Traditional clinical tools often overlook individual complexities and delay identification, especially in resource-limited settings where mortality rates remain high. This study addresses these gaps by developing machine learning (ML) models for high-risk pregnancy prediction using data from 62 pregnant women at an Iranian hospital (2014-2016). Features were categorized into demographics, pregnancy-relate

Evaluating machine learning models for stroke prediction based on clinical variables.

INTRODUCTION: Stroke remains one of the leading causes of global mortality and long-term disability, driving the urgent need for accurate and early risk prediction tools. Traditional models such as the Framingham Stroke Risk Score have provided foundational insights into stroke prevention but are constrained by linear assumptions and limited adaptability to complex real-world data. In contrast, machine learning (ML) techniques offer the ability to model non-linear relationships and interactions among diverse clinical and demographic variables, supporting more personalized and flexible risk pre

Enhancing glioma progression prediction: Unsupervised clustering of whole-brain magnetic resonance spectroscopy data for surgical planning.

BACKGROUND: The inevitable progression of high-grade gliomas has prompted a need for data-backed identification of compromised tissue prior to detection on traditional serial imaging. Whole-brain magnetic resonance spectroscopy (WB-MRS) can fill this role to classify glioma progression prior to contrast enhancement. Voxel-level data can differentiate areas of perilesional tissue under supervised machine learning (ML) and has been shown to predict the likelihood of tumor progression within six months. In this study, we aim to improve the spatial utility of WB-MRS ML through unsupervised ML clus…
