Widespread complex enameloid microstructure in teeth and rostral denticles of Cretaceous sclerorhynchoid skates (Rajiformes: †Sclerorhynchoidei).

Enameloid is a type of hard mineralised tissue covering teeth and dermal denticles of extant and extinct chondrichthyans. Understanding the diversity of enameloid microstructures across chondrichthyan clades is key to highlight potential phylogenetic or adaptive signals provided by histological characters. Among chondrichthyans, the enameloid microstructure of teeth and odontodes of batomorphs (skates and rays) has been understudied despite the high extant and past taxonomic and morphological diversities of this clade. Here, we focus on the sclerorhynchoid rays, a speciose extinct (Cretaceous)

Dynamic spatial relationships between the greater palatine canal and dental landmarks across age and gender groups: A CBCT cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The relationship of the greater palatine canal (GPC) to dentoalveolar landmarks and how this relationship changes with demographic factors are of critical importance for surgical interventions. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between the GPC and maxillary molars using multiple dentoalveolar landmarks, and to investigate the influence of age, gender, and tooth type using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). STUDY DESIGN: A total of 1156 maxillary molars (649 first, 507 s) were analyzed. This CBCT-based cohort study included patients allocated to age groups: 18-35 years, 36-6

Effect of osseous defect on periodontal ligament stress under normal masticatory force: A three-dimensional finite element analysis of mandibular second molar.

BACKGROUND: Finite element model (FEM) offers an ideal method for the accurate modeling of tooth periodontium with its complicated three-dimensional (3D) geometry. The present study aimed to assess periodontal ligament (PDL) stress under normal masticatory force in the mandibular second molar with and without osseous defect at two different angulations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography was used to collect 3D information on the mandibular second molar. Four 3D models were designed using FEM. The first was a mandibular second molar with normal bone support. The second, third

Microsurgical Intervention for Dens Invaginatus in an Immature Tooth: A Case Report With Long-Term Follow-Up.

Dens invaginatus (DI) is a rare dental anomaly characterized by the infolding of enamel and dentin into the pulp cavity during tooth development. This condition often leads to complex endodontic challenges, predisposing affected teeth to caries, pulp necrosis, and chronic periapical abscesses. This case report describes the successful management of a maxillary lateral incisor with Type II DI complicated by a chronic periapical abscess, using an endodontic microsurgical approach. A 10-year-old girl presented with a chief complaint of recurrent swelling in the maxillary left incisor area. Clinic

The inhibitory effects of 7ND protein on osteoclast differentiation in apical periodontitis.

BACKGROUND: Apical periodontitis (AP) is a highly prevalent inflammatory condition that affects the tissue surrounding the apex of a tooth root. 7ND protein, a mutant form of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), functions as a dominant negative inhibitor of MCP-1. Previous studies have shown that 7ND protein can suppress osteoclast differentiation in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, suggesting its potential to prevent inflammatory bone destruction. However, whether 7ND protein can inhibit AP-induced osteolysis remains unknown. METHODS: To investigate the effects of 7ND protein on os
