Pro-Angiogenic Response to OsteoBiol® GTO® in an In Vitro Endothelial Cell Model Is Associated with Modulation of the COX-2/PGE2/VEGF Axis.

Alveolar bone resorption after tooth extraction complicates subsequent dental implant placement. OsteoBiol® GTO® (Tecnoss®, Giaveno, Italy) is an innovative pre-hydrated heterologous collagenated bone mix blended with a thermosensitive copolymer (OsteoBiol® TSV Gel) that has demonstrated osteoconductive properties. Despite direct contact with blood vessels upon socket filling, its pro-angiogenic potential has not been directly investigated on endothelial cells. Thus, in this study, an in vitro model, consisting of the EA.hy926 endothelial cell line exposed to different OsteoBiol® GTO® soaking

An epidemiological study on supernumerary teeth: a survey on 5,000 people.

BACKGROUND: The formation of dental tissues is a highly delicate and complex phenomenon. Any alteration in this process leads to various dental anomalies which affect the tooth number, size, shape and structure. Supernumerary teeth are one such anomaly which affects the tooth number. Supernumerary teeth can give rise to various complications and pathologies or they may have a familial / syndromic association. They may occur along with other dental anomalies. Thus, such teeth have a definite clinical significance. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of the following study was to know the prevalence o

Ion uptake into demineralized dentine from glass ionomer cement following pretreatment with silver fluoride and potassium iodide.

BACKGROUND: Diamine silver fluoride (Ag(NH3)2F), referred to as AgF, has been shown to provide a pronounced antimicrobial action against caries. The clinical application of this material has been limited by the staining associated with both teeth and tooth coloured restorative materials. The application of potassium iodide (KI) after AgF eliminates stain formation. The purpose of this study was to determine if a prior application of silver fluoride and potassium iodine to demineralized dentine affected the uptake of strontium and fluoride from a glass ionomer cement restoration. METHOD: Three

Spondin-1 Inhibits Odontoblastic Differentiation of Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells.

Reparative dentin formation is a defensive response that restores a mineralized barrier to protect the dental pulp following various stimuli, such as bacterial invasion, tooth preparation, or restorative materials. However, reparative dentin is limited, and to avoid pathological calcification or pulp canal obliteration, mineral deposition must be restricted to the injured area and temporally restrained once the barrier is reestablished. This suggests the existence of negative regulators that can halt odontoblastic differentiation; however, such inhibitory regulators remain incompletely defined…

A Study on the Use of Phase Transition Lysozyme-Loaded Minocycline Hydrochloride in the Local Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is the most important oral disease causing human tooth loss. Although supragingival and subgingival scaling is the main strategy of periodontitis clinical treatments, drug treatment has an indispensable auxiliary role to some degree. Periodontitis medical treatment is divided into systemically administered treatments and local periodontally administered treatments. Compared with systemic administration, local administration can increase local drug concentrations, reduce dosages, and prolong action times while also improving patient compliance and avoiding possible adverse effects

Morphological analysis of neuromuscular junction development and degeneration in rodent lumbrical muscles.

BACKGROUND: The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is a specialised synapse formed between a lower motor neuron and a skeletal muscle fibre, and is an early pathological target in numerous nervous system disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Being able to accurately visualise and quantitatively characterise the NMJ in rodent models of neurological conditions, particularly during the early stages of disease, is thus of clear importance. NEW METHOD: We present a method for dissection of rodent deep lumbrical mus

Lichenoid reaction associated to amalgam restoration.

Hypersensitivity to mercury associated with amalgam restorations may occur and present in one of two different ways. Most commonly it presents as an oral lichenoid reaction affecting oral mucosa in direct contact with an amalgam restoration and represents a delayed, type IV, cell mediated immune response to mercury or one of the other constituents of the dental amalgam. We report a case of oral lichenoid reaction associated to amalgam restoration. A 38 year-old woman presented a caries lesion of tooth #37. A Blacks class I preparation was performed and filled with amalgam. After 19 months, int
