PURPOSE: To present a multidisciplinary care model designed to provide personalized gender-affirming care and assess general health for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals.
METHODS: Drawing from our experience in a tertiary center in Padua (Italy), the Interdisciplinary Group for Gender Incongruence (GIIG) model employs a multidisciplinary approach to provide diverse gender-affirmation services. Mental health support, gender-affirming medical and surgical treatments (GAMST), screening programs, and regular follow-up ensure treatment safety and efficacy. The GIIG model promotes co

This article examines (a) variation in rates of sexual harassment across mode (e.g., in-person, online) and type of harassment, (b) the impact of sexual harassment (i.e., distressing vs. non-distressing), and (c) how sexual harassment is similarly and differently experienced across sexual orientation and gender identity groups. Data were collected as part of the Teen Health and Technology online survey of 5,907 13 to 18 year-old Internet users in the United States. Past year sexual harassment was reported by 23-72% of youth, depending upon sexual orientation, with the highest rates reported by

Background: Sexual and gender minority persons (ie, those reporting sexual orientation other than heterosexual and gender identity other than cisgender, respectively) experience high rates of various forms of psychopathology. However, discussions of sexual minority populations are often focused on aspects of mental health associated with sexual orientation, with relatively less emphasis placed on transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals' mental health. No prior studies have compared psychiatric diagnoses between TGD and cisgender patients presenting for psychiatric treatment in a syste

BACKGROUND: Both transgender/gender-diverse (TGGD) and lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) individuals experience discrimination tied to their identities, which contributes to poorer mental health outcomes. Research frequently combines these groups under the broader LGBTQ+ label, potentially obscuring the distinct experiences of each subgroup. This study investigated how discrimination relates to depressive symptoms in TGGD and LGB individuals and whether these patterns vary between groups.
METHODS: Data were drawn from the HEARD (Health Equity, Awareness, and Resilience to Discrimination) projec

Uterus transplantation (UTx) is an experimental surgery likely to face the issue of organ shortage. In my article, I explore how this issue might be addressed by changing the prevailing practices around live uterus donor recruitment. Currently, women with children - often the mothers of recipients - tend to be overrepresented as donors. Yet, other potentially eligible groups who may have an interest in providing their uterus - such as transgender men, or cisgender women who do not wish to gestate or to have children - tend to be excluded as potential donors. Moving forward, I recommend that do

IMPORTANCE: Compounded with barriers to care, stigmatization, lack of trust, and high rates of psychiatric comorbidities, transmasculine patients face a high psychosocial burden from acne. Acne is a common sequela of masculinizing hormone therapy, and understanding its epidemiology may improve care for transmasculine patients.
OBJECTIVE: To summarize current literature regarding prevalence and factors associated with acne in transmasculine patients.
EVIDENCE REVIEW: A search was performed using Ovid MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, Scientific Electron

Hysterectomy is medically necessary for transgender and gender diverse patients experiencing dysphoria. During the surgical evaluation, patients should be asked about their desires for childbearing and counseled about gamete preservation. There should also be coordination with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons if patients desire other gender-affirming procedures at the time of hysterectomy. Many perioperative considerations should be given, including the continuation of testosterone perioperatively. Surgery should be performed minimally invasively if possible. Complications specific to gend

Transgender women (TGW) are individuals whose birth sex is male but whose gender identify is female. They are usually simply classified as men who have sex with men, resulting in their specific needs being overlooked. TGW is a key population affecting the spread of AIDS. Global epidemiological data show that the HIV/AIDS prevalence and new infection rates are significantly higher in TGW than in general population. The prevalence of HIV infection in TGW remains at a high level in different areas of China , with higher infection risks compared with cisgender men who have sex with men. This paper

INTRODUCTION: Activity limitations among transgender and non-binary individuals remain largely unexplored using population-based samples. This study examines the risk of activity limitations across different gender identities in Canada.
METHOD: Using data from the 2021 Canadian long-form Census, logistic regressions estimated the adjusted odds of reporting activity limitations (seeing, hearing, mobility/dexterity, mental, cognitive, and other) across gender identities.
RESULTS: Non-binary individuals assigned female at birth (AFAB) had the highest predicted probability of reporting any activ

Gender-affirming hormone therapy with testosterone may be a component in the treatment plan for transmasculine individuals. Secondary erythrocytosis induced by testosterone therapy and its subsequent complications, such as pruritus, have been reported in the literature in cisgender men. This report presents two transmasculine patients who developed generalized pruritus shortly after initiating testosterone therapy for gender-affirming care. Both patients exhibited elevated hemoglobin and hematocrit levels indicative of testosterone-induced erythrocytosis. Despite treatments, including topical

CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old transgender patient (assigned male at birth, pronouns: they/them) with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation presented for elective transoral chondrolaryngoplasty. They had been on gender-affirming hormone therapy with intramuscular estradiol valerate and oral progesterone for 16 months and their atrial fibrillation was managed with flecainide and aspirin. The otolaryngology team recommended holding estrogen postoperatively to reduce venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk, but the patient expressed concern about withdrawal-related gender dysphoria and vasomotor symptoms.

Breast cancer presents unique complexities for transgender individuals. This retrospective study characterized breast cancers in 14 transgender and nonbinary patients treated at a specialized transgender health center from 2016 to 2023. Patients with a median age of 53 (31-65 years) were identified using international classification of disease-10 codes. Most (86%) were aged 40 or older and eligible for screening mammography. The cohort included 6 trans men, 7 trans women, and one genderqueer individual. Diagnoses included ductal carcinoma in situ (36%), lobular carcinoma in situ (7%), stage 1

Genital gender-affirming surgery is a crucial yet often overlooked component of gender-affirming care for transgender individuals. Genital gender-affirming surgery is a rapidly evolving field, and it is not uncommon for surgeons - sometimes without prior experience in gender-affirming care - to encounter transgender individuals in clinical practice; hence, it is essential that all healthcare providers possess a foundational understanding of gender-affirming procedures and individual's needs.Research has shown that genital gender-affirming surgery significantly improves the quality of life for
