Effect of Facet Tropism on Postoperative Cervical Range of Motion After Single-Level Cervical Disc Arthroplasty.

Study designRetrospective analysis.ObjectivesCervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) was designed to replace the degenerated disc with the prosthesis to preserve cervical motion. The commonly used artificial discs are designed symmetric, whereas the facet joints were reported to be asymmetric in many people. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of facet tropism on the cervical range of motion (ROM) after single-level CDA using Prestige LP.MethodsA total of 90 patients who underwent single-level CDA using Prestige LP from 2012 to 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Radiographs were taken at each ti

Precise joint preserving surgery by using Three-Dimensional Printing Technology for metastatic periacetabular bone tumor: A technique note and preliminary report.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Complex arthroplasties for periacetabular metastatic lesions can result in complications including infection and prosthesis loosening owing to poor bone quality. A new surgical protocol has been developed as a joint-sparing surgery to avoid complications after arthroplasties. The main surgical steps are: (a) conservative and accurate tumor resection with aid of 3D printing model-assisted preoperative resection simulation and preparation of pre-contour plate, (b) reconstruction with structural bone graft through the sandwich technique for augmentation of subchondral bone. Conversion of Failed Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty to Hemiarthroplasty: Three Cases of Instability and Three Cases of Glenoid Loosening.

BACKGROUND: Glenoid loosening and postoperative instability are common causes of failed reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). When soft-tissue problems or large glenoid bone defect interferes with reimplantation in revision RTSA, conversion to hemiarthroplasty can be considered. We present a case series of patients who underwent conversion to hemiarthroplasty due to glenoid loosening and early instability after RTSAs, along with clinical results. METHODS: A total of 72 primary RTSAs using the Aequalis prosthesis were performed at our institution from May 2009 to December 2016. Of these,

Solid radiographic fusion with a nonconstrained device 5 years after cervical arthroplasty.

Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) has been gaining popularity as a surgical alternative to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Spontaneous fusion following a CDA is uncommon. A few anecdotal reports of heterotrophic ossification around the implant sites have been noted for the BRYAN, ProDisc-C, Mobi-C, PRESTIGE, and PCM devices. All CDA fusions reported to date have been in devices that are semiconstrained. The authors reported the case of a 56-year-old man who presented with left C-7 radiculopathy and neck pain for 10 weeks after an assault injury. There was evidence of disc herniation at

Comparison between single- and multi-level patients: clinical and radiological outcomes 2 years after cervical disc replacement.

In cervical multi-level degenerative pathology, considering the morbidity of the extensive fusion techniques, some authors advocate for the multilevel disc replacement. This study compared the safety and efficacy of disc replacement with an unconstrained prosthesis in multi- versus single-level patients. A total of 231 patients with cervical degenerative disc disease (DDD) who were treated with cervical disc replacement and completed their 24 months follow-up were analyzed prospectively: 175 were treated at one level, 56 at 2 levels or more. Comparison between both groups was based on usual cl

International consensuses and guidelines on multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) by the Academy of Asia-Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology (AAPPO).

Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) have revolutionized cataract surgery, evolving from simple monofocal designs to advanced multifocal technologies that aim to reduce dependence on glasses after surgery. However, multifocal IOLs remain one of the most debated topics in ophthalmology, with passionate advocates and critics. This controversy stems from the balance between their potential benefits and limitations. The Asia-Pacific Academy of Professors of Ophthalmology (AAPPO) formed an international panel of 25 experts from 14 countries/territories who prepared and voted on consensus statements in twelve

Cataract surgery and artificial iris implantation in patient with oculocutaneous albinism: a case report.

We present a case report detailing the successful phacoemulsification surgery with artificial iris implantation for two individuals with oculocutaneous albinism. These women suffered from cataracts, resulting in reduced visual acuity and heightened photophobia due to iris pigmentary epithelium deficiency. The patients underwent phacoemulsification along with prosthetic artificial iris implantation into the posterior chamber. This intervention resulted in improved visual acuity, reduced photophobia and glare, and an overall enhanced quality of life. Our report highlights two cases of successful
