Indoor allergens represent an important precipitating factor for both asthma and atopic eczema dermatitis syndromes (AEDS). Sensitization to dust mite allergens can be determined by means of a skin-prick test (SPT) or by measurement of specific IgE antibodies in serum (sIgE). A procedure, using Freund's complete adjuvant test (FCAT), for the determination of the allergenic potential of fractions and components in colophony of the gum rosin type is described and discussed. The IgE response to castor bean (Ricinus communis) was studied in 96 castor bean-allergic patients from Marseilles, France. All had positive skin tests to castor bean.
