Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax are co-endemic in Ethiopia. This study investigated whether mixed infections were missed by microscopy from a 2017 therapeutic efficacy study at two health facilities in Ethiopia. A 2-year-old boy living outside the endemic area of lymphatic filariasis in Surat Thani Province, Thailand, developed a high fever. To investigate the cause of his presenting symptoms, blood was collected and microfilariae were detected and identified as Brugia malayi using thick blood smear staining. The sources of the infection were investigated. Microfilariae from two domestic cats residing in the boy's village were detected and identified as B. pahangi using a high-resolution melting real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis. The possible sources of this cryptic infection are discussed.

Первичная вирусная инфекция Варичеллы (VZV) во время беременности может быть связана с тяжелыми повреждениями плода. This study investigates the hypothesis that Hirschsprung's disease (HD), congenital rectal aganglionosis, may be etiologically linked to antenatal cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. Bowel specimens from 72 HD patients, 144 control I infants (Hirschsprung-like symptoms, normal histology), and 36 control II infants (deaths from nongastrointestinal causes) were analyzed for CMV genomes by polymerase chain reaction.
