Group B streptococci (GBS) have been infrequently recognized as a cause of pharyngitis. We report three cases of GBS pharyngitis in patients with underlying diseases, two of whom were treated with and responded incompletely to oral beta-lactam antibiotics. Ninety-six isolates of Bacillus anthracis recovered in France between 1994 and 2000 were tested for their susceptibilities to 25 different antibiotics. Resistance to penicillin G and amoxicillin was 11.5%. All of the isolates were resistant to cotrimoxazole and susceptible to doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, pefloxacin, levofloxacin, teicoplanin, vancomycin, clindamycin, imipenem, and rifampin.

The most virulent pneumococcal serotype (type 3) has not to date been associated with multiple antimicrobial resistance. We report an unusual gastrointestinal presentation of fatal septicemia caused by a multiply resistant type 3 pneumococcus in a setting of increasing prevalence of multiple resistance, including resistance to erythromycin, clindamycin, and tetracycline.

Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis and dysgalactiae were isolated from swine clinical specimens. The subspecies equisimilis presented 2 clonal patterns with 85% genetic similarity, whereas subspecies dysgalactiae presented distinct band pattern with less than 80% similarity with equisimilis genotypes. Isolates presented high MIC values to tetracyclines, danofloxacin, spectinomycin, tiamulin, and clindamycin.

All the 31 isolates of Alloscardovia omnicolens exhibited low MICs for β-lactams, glycopeptides, linezolid, tetracyclines, and cotrimoxazole. One strain showed MICs ≥256μg/mL for both erythromycin and clindamycin with a single point mutation in 23S rRNA. One strain likely had acquired fluoroquinolone resistance associated with a unique mutation in ParC.

We report a case of Streptobacillus moniliformis polyarthritis mimicking a rheumatoid arthritis, in a pet shop employee. In culture of fluid joint growth a curious Gram-negative bacillus was identified by polymerase chain reaction as Streptobacillus moniliformis. The outcome was good after surgical debridment and rifampin-clindamycin combination during 4 weeks.
