Genetic structure of non-inbred Cubavet and CENIC mice colonies was investigated for three loci of hair colouring (A, B, D), for potential fertility and embryo mortality. Mice colonies are polymorphis in three hair colour determining loci. Alleles rates are: a -- 0.17--0.36; b -- 0.21--0.26; d -- 0.07--0.17. In contrast to information in the literature which indicates that meningococci rapidly lose pili upon cultivation in vitro, we found that piliation of meningococci could be maintained in vitro for 15 or more passages. The lifespan and fertility of albino sand rats were found to be severely reduced in comparison with a laboratory colony of brown sand rats. Studies were made on the effects of 665 sera, from normal donors or patients with various diseases, on B-lymphocyte colony formation in agar by mouse spleen cells. Undiluted serum from most normal donors inhibited colony formation, but 43-53% of sera from patients with histiocytic lymphoma, lymphocytic lymphoma or Hodgkin's disease stimulated colony formation, serum activity correlating with the stage of the disease. Leukemia virus transmission was studied during an outbreak of leukemia among the baboons of the Sukhumi monkey colony. Candida auris, an emerging multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen, poses a significant diagnostic and infection control challenge with limited identification methodologies. To overcome this, we developed and validated a rapid, specific, and direct colony real-time PCR assay for C. auris identification without DNA extraction. Species-specific primers were designed using comparative genomics and subjected to rigorous experimental validations. The optimized assay using a selected primer pair (Candida-auris-5F/5R) successfully identified C. auris directly from the cultured colonies within two hours.
