BACKGROUND: Phenotyping malignant hyperthermia (MH) by contracture testing has a low but quantifiable degree of inaccuracy, measured by its sensitivity and specificity. Quantifying the limitations inherent in diagnostic testing for MH can help resolve issues in clinical practice, such as the interpretation of a negative test and the apparent lack of complete genetic linkage to RYR1.

This study assessed the temporomandibular joint of 34 children with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy for contractures to determine whether joint abnormalities were related to oral-motor dysfunction. Subjects were found to have restrictions in mandibular range of motion, increased overjet and decreased overbite. Twenty-nine soft tissue releases for knee flexion contracture were performed in 23 children 2-15 years of age with juvenile chronic arthritis. The average duration of knee joint involvement was 4.6 years (range 1-11 years), and the mean age at operation was 8.6 years. After a brief description of the characteristics of Dupuytren's disease the operative and conservative therapeutic measures are examined from both clinical and social medical aspects. It is shown in 154 patients with Dupuytren's contracture of the hands in various stages that an advance of this disease could usually be prevented by treatment with soft X-rays. The syndrome of persistent facial myokymia and spastic facial contracture is a rare sign of pontine glioma. In none of the previously published cases has this syndrome been reported in association with a nonneoplastic lesion. A patient is described in whom facial myokymia and contracture were caused by a pontine tuberculoma.

From 1963 to July 26, 1974, 211 men underwent renal transplantation at our clinic. Urethral strictures were present prior to the initial transplant in 4 patients (1.8 per cent) and developed in the post-transplant period in 13 patients (6.1 per cent).
