One in eight women will develop breast cancer (BC) over their lifetime. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for up to 20% of BC cases and has fewer treatment options, greater metastatic potential, a higher risk of recurrence, and a poorer prognosis compared to other BC subtypes. Compared to hormone receptor-positive BCs, TNBC has more tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, a higher tumor mutational burden, and greater programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression. While these features suggest greater immunogenicity, the balance of the complex TNBC tumor microenvironment (TME) is immunosuppre

Superficial tumors cause pain and bleeding. Treatment not only involves tumor control but must also provide symptom relief and repair tissues. Cryoablation is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive technique used to treat malignant tumors. It offers unique advantages in managing superficial tumors. It destroys tumor cell structure via low temperatures, induces necrosis and sloughing of tumor tissue, and reduces tumor burden. Additionally, it enhances the repair of local tissues, promotes wound healing, and improves the patient's quality of life. We report a case of a patient with exophytic

Thoracoscopic intercostal nerve cryoablation is increasingly used as an adjunct to the Nuss procedure for pectus excavatum to reduce postoperative pain, yet detailed stepwise descriptions remain limited. This video tutorial presents a practical, structured description of the operative technique with emphasis on reproducible procedural steps. The patient is placed supine with both arms elevated, and single lung ventilation is established, commencing with the left-sided procedure. Thoracoscopic access is obtained through small lateral ports, followed by carbon dioxide insufflation to improve vis

Bifid ribs are rare congenital anomalies, usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on imaging. However, they can cause significant pain, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly in pediatric populations. We report a case of a 3-year-old female with chronic anterior chest wall pain attributed to a bifid right fourth rib. Imaging confirmed the anomaly without associated soft tissue masses. After transient symptom relief with lidocaine patches and intercostal nerve blocks, she underwent successful percutaneous image-guided cryoneurolysis of the right third to fifth inter

Cryoballoon ablation has been established as an effective method for pulmonary vein isolation and has recently been investigated for its efficacy of substrate modification on the left atrial roof area in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. We herein report the first successful case of left atrial posterior wall isolation including roof line ablation using cryoballoons in a patient with persistent atrial fibrillation, dextrocardia, and situs inversus. Cryoballoon ablation proved to be a safe and straightforward approach to create lasting lesions along the left atrial roof line and lef

Motor-evoked potential (MEP) monitoring is an electrophysiologic technique useful for testing peripheral motor nerve integrity during cryoablation cases with risk of nerve injury. Previously, neuromonitoring within the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite for cryoablation has not been performed as magnetic needles are used which could cause magnetic field interactions with neuromonitoring leads. We present the first report of a patient who underwent MEP monitoring during MRI-guided cryoablation of a vascular malformation adjacent to the brachial plexus. We demonstrate that MEPs may be safely

BACKGROUND: With advancements in technology and ablation techniques, catheter ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) has become safer with time. In the past, standard-of-care recommended overnight stay for outpatient procedures. As safety has improved and procedure times have shortened, some centers have allowed for same-day discharge. We report the results of a multi-center, randomized clinical trial investigating the safety of same-day discharge post-cryoballoon ablation.
METHODS: Patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation underwent pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with the

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is the first-line treatment option for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), but residual tumor often remains after TURBT, thereby leading to cancer recurrence. Here, we introduce combined use of in vivo Raman spectroscopy and in vivo cryoablation as a new approach to detect and remove residual bladder tumor during TURBT. Bladder cancer (BCa) patients treated with TURBT at our urological department between Dec 2019 and Jan 2021 were collected. First, Raman signals were collected from 74 BCa patients to build reference spectra of normal bla

PURPOSE: To describe a simple cryosurgical technique for treating canine distichiasis, its success rate and any associated complications.
METHODS: Clinical records from canine patients undergoing treatment for distichiasis using a specific cryotherapy technique were retrospectively reviewed. The technique employed a triple freeze-thaw cycle via a transconjunctivally applied, liquid nitrogen-cooled, 2-mm diameter closed cryoprobe.
RESULTS: The cryotherapy technique was employed in 125 dogs with distichiasis over a period of 13 years, with 109 (87%) bilaterally and 16 (13%) unilaterally affect

BACKGROUND: There is limited data comparing radiofrequency (RF) and cryoballoon (CB) ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), which tends to have higher recurrence rates following ablation compared to paroxysmal AF.
METHODS: A systematic search of the Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane database was performed for studies comparing RF vs CB ablation for persistent AF. An inverse-variance random-effects model was used to calculate the composite effects.
RESULTS: One randomized and 9 observational studies were identified, with 1650 patients receiving CB and 1706 patients receiving RF ablation

The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness and safety of 2 strategies for catheter treatment of patients with persistent atrial fibrillation in the long-term period, using cardiac implantable loop recorders. The research is a prospective, randomized, controlled study designed to compare the results of modern catheter technologies in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. The study included 127 patients with persistent atrial fibrillation in the last 6 months before inclusion in the study, for whom at least 2 antiarrhythmic drugs of class I to III were not effective. BACKGROUND: Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a new, non-thermal technology in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). Early investigations have shown a promising safety profile with durable pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and large antral lesions. However, clinical data remains scarce.
METHODS: We investigated a cohort of 43 patients. Twenty-three patients underwent PVI with PFA in our hospital and we analyzed them with regard to procedural characteristics and with regard to the size of acute antral lesion which was estimated by using an electroanatomical map of the left atrium (LA). We compa

PURPOSE: To describe a case of surgical repair of a total, combined traction-rhegmatogenous, retinal detachment with proliferative vitreoretinopathy after cryoablation of a retinal capillary hemangioblastoma.
METHODS: A case of a 47-year-old man presenting with a solitary, superotemporal retinal capillary hemangioblastoma in the right eye with serous retinal detachment and subfoveal fluid and exudates is reported. The hemangioblastoma was treated with cryoablation, but despite regression of the lesion, the patient developed a total combined traction-rhegmatogenous retinal detachment 6 weeks l

AIM: Data on ablation for atypical recurrent atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia (AVNRT) and long-term follow-up are generally sparse. Furthermore, the rate of recurrence and safety of cryoablation for atypical AVNRT has not been established. We compared patients cryoablated for atypical AVNRT and typical AVNRT during long-term follow-up.
METHODS: All patients (n = 2612) who underwent catheter ablation for AVNRT at the Karolinska University Hospital between January 2009 and August 2019 were analyzed. A total of 91 patients undergoing first-time cryoablation for atypical AVNRT were incl
