Faecal samples were collected from domestic cats in the metropolitan area of the city of Perth, Western Australia, and screened for the presence of Cryptosporidium by both microscopy and PCR. Of 162 samples screened, two were positive for Cryptosporidium (a prevalence of 1.2%). Sample Ct33 was from an 18-month-old female and sample Ct131 from a 12-month-old female. Although serologic studies have identified hantaviral infection in the United States, acute disease has not been recognized. This study examines the rate of domestic violence against adult women by men partners. Two hundred eighteen women at two primary care clinics responded anonymously to a questionnaire. Forty-eight percent reported verbal abuse, 44 percent minor physical abuse, and 28 percent severe physical abuse. Abuse was common (16 percent) before marriage.
