Equity by design: integrating a Deprivation Index into digital platforms for breast cancer and chronic disease prevention-lessons from the ELISAH project.

BACKGROUND: Socio-economic inequalities are a major determinant of chronic disease risk and access to preventive services. Deprivation indices can quantify these disparities, but very few studies have considered them when examining the relationship between breast cancer incidence, prognosis, and particulate matter as a potential effect modifier. Moreover, these indices have rarely been used as active tools in service delivery. Digital health technologies offer an opportunity to embed equity into chronic disease prevention through the real-time integration of socio-economic metrics. The ELISAH

COVID-19 Place Confinement, Pro-Social, Pro-environmental Behaviors, and Residents' Wellbeing: A New Conceptual Framework.

Residents' wellbeing in the present COVID-19 global health crisis requires a deeper understanding to determine appropriate management strategies to promote sustainable behaviors and contribute to human and planetary health. Residents' behavior can have a profound influence in contributing to personal and global community's health by responding effectively to emergency strategies in disease outbreaks such as the Coronavirus. It is evident that an understanding of residents' behavior(s) pre COVID-19 across fields have relied on over-simplistic models, many of which will need to be revisited. Our

County-Level COVID-19 Policy Comprehensiveness and Adult Behavioral Health during 2021 : County-Level COVID-19 Policy and Adult Behavioral Health.

Epidemiologic research has found worsening behavioral health in the USA since 2020. Local policies may have contributed to these patterns and associated disparities. However, scant research has systematically documented county-level COVID-19-era policymaking or empirically investigated its health impacts. To investigate this question, we linked the US COVID-19 County Policy Database-a novel database with weekly data from 2020 to 2021 on 26 policies for 309 primarily urban counties-to data on adult behavioral health from the cross-sectional 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (N = 25,60

Possible Role of CRF-Hcrt Interaction in the Infralimbic Cortex in the Emergence and Maintenance of Compulsive Alcohol-Seeking Behavior.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a chronic, relapsing disorder that is characterized by the compulsive use of alcohol despite numerous health, social, and economic consequences. Initially, the use of alcohol is driven by positive reinforcement. Over time, however, alcohol use can take on a compulsive quality that is driven by the desire to avoid the negative consequences of abstinence, including negative affect and heightened stress/anxiety. This transition from positive reinforcement- to negative reinforcement-driven consumption involves the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) system, although

Polysubstance use and its linkage with risky sexual behavior in university students: significance for policy makers and parents.

BACKGROUND: Despite the high prevalence of polysubstance use in low income countries, little has been done to investigate the linkage between polysubstance use and risky sexual behaviors. OBJECTIVE: To assess the association of polysubstance use with risky sexual behaviors, economic, educational and geographic factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional study on aspects of risky behavior towards HIV-infection was conducted on a sample of 1220 university students. Logistic regression analysis was applied to examine the linkage between polysubstance use and risky sexual behavior--having sex with multi

Behaviorally Informed Text Messaging to Promote Colon Cancer Screening: A Quality Improvement Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Colorectal cancer screening rates in the US remain suboptimal, particularly among low-income and minoritized populations, despite the availability of effective, low-cost options such as the fecal immunochemical test (FIT). Scalable outreach strategies are needed to improve uptake and reduce staff burden in safety-net settings. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether a behavioral economics-informed, automated text messaging strategy was associated with increased FIT completion compared with nurse-led telephone call outreach. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This quality improvement rando

Optimal intervention and cost effectiveness analysis of a typhoid fever transmission model with environmental contamination.

In this work, a compartmental model of disease transmission due to typhoid fever, taking into account both the human-to-human transmission and the environmental route due to bacterial contamination of water resources, has been developed and analyzed. The human population under consideration are subdivided into four classes based on the epidemiological status of individuals with respect to typhoid fever transmission dynamics, these are, susceptible human, carrier humans, infectious humans, and recovered humans. There exist additional compartment which represent the concentration of bacteria in

Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Depression, and Alcohol Consumption During Joblessness and During Recessions Among Young Adults in CARDIA.

Research has shown that recessions are associated with lower cardiovascular mortality, but unemployed individuals have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) or death. We used data from 8 consecutive examinations (1985-2011) of the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) cohort, modeled in fixed-effect panel regressions, to investigate simultaneously the associations of CVD risk factors with the employment status of individuals and the macroeconomic conditions prevalent in the state where the individual lives. We found that unemployed individuals had lower levels of bl

Compulsive buying tendencies and personal finances.

In a community sample of 225 adults, scores on the Compulsive Buying Scale were associated with scores on the subscales of the Executive Personal Finance Scale (rs = -.35 to -.70) and the Money Attitudes Scale (positively with using money for impressing others, and negatively with saving and planning). The results suggested that common tendencies toward compulsive buying may not be pathological, but merely associated with attitudes toward money in general and financial management habits.
