The effect of heart rate on extracellular [K+] ([K+]o) accumulation during total global ischemia was investigated in the isolated arterially perfused (37 degrees C) rabbit interventricular septum using intramyocardial K+-sensitive electrodes (tip diameter, 0.3 mm) and intracellular microelectrodes. In order to elucidate further the mechanisms of central necrosis formation and drug delivery into tumor tissue, the interstitial fluid pressure in the normal subcutis and in rat ascites hepatoma AH109A and AH272 tumors was measured by means of a modified diffusion chamber technique. Radiological staging of pulmonary oedema was compared with the determination of extra-vascular lung water by means of a double indicator dilution technique. This study was designed to investigate the long-term effects of glucocorticoids on the control of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and renal function. A progressive, apparently inherited corneal dystrophy is described in an inbred line of Manx cats. Initial changes in the cornea are seen at four months of age and characterized by anterior stromal edema. Progressive worsening of the condition produces severe bullous keratopathy with eventual breakdown of both epithelium and stroma. Light microscopic and ultrastructural studies in the advanced disease state revealed marked edema of the corneal stroma, disintegration of collagen material, and the formation of epithelial bullae. Ultrastructural evidence shows a normal endothelium to be present.

Fifty percent of the ascorbic acid content of sliced rat lung was released from the tissue to the media within a few minutes by either washing or incubating the slices with Krebs-phosphate solution. Measurement of the lactate dehydrogenase and potassium content of the medium after incubating lung slices for 5 min showed that about 20% of the cells were damaged by slicing. Sephadex chromatography of tissue extracts prepared from washed lung slices showed that none of the ascorbic acid in these slices were bound to protein. Vesicular myocardial change is a specific and common finding in the diseased hearts of humans and experimental animals. The small to large vesicles are generally bound by a double membrane. They are formed within myocardial cells and then possibly extruded into the extracellular space where they disintegrate or are phagocytosed by mononuclear cells.
