A QRM Discussion of Microbial Contamination of Non-sterile Drug Products, Using FDA and EMA Warning Letters Recorded between 2008 and 2016.

Microbial quality control of non-sterile drug products has been a concern to regulatory agencies and the pharmaceutical industry since the 1960s. Despite being an old challenge to companies, microbial contamination still affects a high number of manufacturers of non-sterile products. Consequences go well beyond the obvious direct costs related to batch rejections or product recalls, as human lives and a company's reputation are significantly impacted if such events occur. To better manage risk and establish effective mitigation strategies, it is necessary to understand the microbial hazards in

Gene Expression in Embryos From Norwegian Red Bulls With High or Low Non Return Rate: An RNA-Seq Study of in vivo-Produced Single Embryos.

During the last decade, paternal effects on embryo development have been found to have greater importance than previously believed. In domestic cattle, embryo mortality is an issue of concern, causing huge economical losses for the dairy cattle industry. In attempts to reveal the paternal influence on embryo death, recent approaches have used transcriptome profiling of the embryo to find genes and pathways affected by different phenotypes in the bull. For practical and economic reasons, most such studies have used in vitro produced embryos. The aim of the present study was to investigate the d

Emerging Macromolecular Approaches to Pore Engineering and Interfacial Control Using Interpenetrating Polymer Networks: Recent Developments.

The growth of the population and rapid industrialization have a critical impact on water quality. Pollution of water bodies by heavy metals, dyes, plastics, and pharmaceutical waste poses a significant hazard to human health and potentially leads to the release of carcinogenic, non-biodegradable toxins into the environment. The removal of pollutants in wastewater has been carried out by several methods, including filtration, adsorption, biological advanced oxidation processes, photocatalysis, electrochemical, and ion exchange. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs), according to IUPAC, are m

Maintaining oxygen above a critical threshold prevents acetate-driven phytotoxicity in industrial-scale aerobic composting: metagenomic, MAG, and enzyme-activity evidence.

Aerobic composting is a key route for organic-waste valorization, yet product utilization is often constrained by phytotoxicity and low germination index (GI), particularly under oxygen-limited operation. Here, we developed an actionable oxygen-control window (O2 ≥ 10% v/v) to mitigate acetate-associated GI inhibition by integrating process monitoring with inhibitor profiling of GI extracts, metagenomics/metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs), and pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) activity measurements. Three composting modes were implemented to create contrasting oxygen regimes: mechanical composting

Sub-ppm Methane Sensing by Spark-Ablation-Synthesized Nano-SnO2.

Methane is considered one of the cleanest energy sources as it produces fewer pollutants upon burning compared to other fossil fuels. Its accidental release during extraction, transportation, and use, however, poses significant environmental and safety risks, warranting advanced sensing technologies to monitor its concentration in ambient air. Here, we prepare nanoparticle-based materials for sensing methane at concentrations that are highly relevant in the atmospheric environment. The nanoparticle (NP) building blocks of the sensing materials are produced by spark-ablating and simultaneously

Controlling instability in gacS-gacA regulatory genes during inoculant production of Pseudomonas fluorescens biocontrol strains.

Secondary metabolism in fluorescent pseudomonads is globally regulated by gacS, which encodes a membrane-bound sensor kinase, and gacA, which encodes a transcriptional response regulator. Spontaneous mutation in either gene blocked biosynthesis of the antimicrobial compounds hydrogen cyanide, 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol, pyoluteorin, and pyrrolnitrin by the model biocontrol strain Pseudomonas fluorescens CHA0. Spontaneous mutants also had altered abilities to utilize several carbon sources and to increase medium pH compared with the wild type, suggesting that gacS and gacA influence primary as

Extracellular Vesicles Derived from Natural Biological Resources and Their Potential to Facilitate Skin Regeneration and Rejuvenation.

The skin, the largest organ in the human body, serves as a crucial barrier against external stimuli. With the acceleration of social industrialization and the worsening of global climate change, the risk of physical, chemical and biological damage to the skin has significantly increased. Among these, surgical wounds, accidental injuries, diabetic wounds, and ultraviolet (UV)-radiation-induced photoaging are particularly common. Cutaneous wound healing is a complex and dynamic process that requires precise coordination of numerous molecular events to effectively repair damaged skin. Skin photoa
