The hydroxyapatite orbital implant was first released for use as an orbital implant in humans in August 1989. It has been shown to be well tolerated, providing good motility of the artificial eye with a low complication rate when used as a primary implant. Congenital ptosis in humans has been associated with anisometropia, myopia, astigmatism, and amblyopia. Scientific evidence has shown that visual deprivation causes axial myopia in animals. PURPOSE: To investigate the clinical outcomes of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) endophthalmitis.
METHODS: Clinical courses were reviewed for 17 eyes (15 patients) with endogenous MRSA endophthalmitis based on positive blood and vitreous culture or clinical suspicion between 2013 to 2019 at Duke University Hospitals.
RESULTS: Of 17 eyes, initial VA ranged from 20/40 to light perception. Of 15 patients, 9 had predisposing risk factors for bacteremia. All eyes received intravitreal vancomycin, 13 also received ceftazidime, and 2 also received amikacin instead of ceftazidime.

PURPOSE: The presence of eyebrow elevation in anophthalmic patients has been used as evidence to support a proprioceptive stimulus for frontalis innervation. In this study, we examined the frequency of brow elevation before and after enucleation and reviewed additional clinical findings to determine if any were associated with eyebrow position.
