Predicting depression among rural and urban disabled elderly in China using a random forest classifier.

With global aging, the number of elderly with physical disabilities is also increasing. Compared with the ordinary elderly, the elderly who lose their independence are more likely to have the symptoms of depression. Reducing depression may help to alleviate the disability process of those who find themselves in the disabled stages. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the predictive effects of demographic characteristics, health behavior, health status, family relations, social relations, and subjective attitude on depression in rural and urban disabled elderly to improve early d…

Environmental perceptions, self-regulation, and coping with noise mediate the associations between children's physical environment and sleep and mental health problems.

BACKGROUND: Children face various challenges in their home and extended neighborhood settings. In this study, we examine the impact of the b … safety, and higher coping efforts were associated with more mental health and sleep problems. Good family relations acted in the opposite direction. In SEM, the built environment score was associated with lower neighborhood quality and lower traffic safety, which in turn led to higher coping efforts, and then to mental health/sleep problems. Home gardens related …

Suicide risk in trans populations: An application of minority stress theory.

Drawing on minority stress theory, the present study tested the relations of minority stressors (i.e., experiences of prejudice and discrimination, internalized antitrans attitudes, fear of antitrans stigma), social support (i.e., friend, family, and significant other support), and substance use (i.e., drug and alcohol use) with depression and suicide risk in a sample of trans individuals. Depression was examined as a mediator of the relations of minority stressors and social support with suicide risk; drug and alcohol use were examined as direct correlates of suicide risk. Participants were 3

TRIM29 (Tripartite Motif Containing 29) Alleviates NLRC4 (NLR Family CARD Domain Containing Protein 4) Inflammasome Related Cerebral Injury via Promoting Proteasomal Degradation of NLRC4 in Ischemic Stroke.

BACKGROUND: Neuroinflammation plays extremely crucial roles in the neurological damage mediated by ischemic stroke. TRIM29 (tripartite motif containing 29) has previously been proposed to contribute to the regulation of innate immunity, however, the effect of TRIM29 on ischemic stroke induced neurodegenerative processes and neuroinflammation still largely unexplored. In the current article, we aimed to investigate the function and the precise mechanisms of TRIM29 in ischemic stroke. METHODS: Middle cerebral artery occlusion mice model and oxygen-glucose deprivation cell model were established

DNA polymorphism in the omp25/omp31 family of Brucella spp.: identification of a 1.7-kb inversion in Brucella cetaceae and of a 15.1-kb genomic island, absent from Brucella ovis, related to the synthesis of smooth lipopolysaccharide.

Five genes homologous to the well-known omp25 and omp31 genes, that code for two major Brucella spp. outer membrane proteins (OMPs), have been detected in the genome of Brucella melitensis 16M and Brucella suis 1330. In this work we have determined the nucleotide sequence of these five genes, named omp31b, omp25b, omp25c, omp25d and omp22, in the six classical Brucella species reference strains and in representative strains of the recently proposed species Brucella cetaceae and Brucella pinnipediae that classify the Brucella strains isolated in the last years from marine mammals. Although thes

A very mild phenotype in six individuals of a three-generation family with the novel HRAS variant c.176C > G p.(Ala59Gly): Emergence of a new HRAS-related RASopathy distinct from Costello syndrome.

Costello syndrome is a clinically recognizable, severe neurodevelopmental disorder caused by heterozygous activating variants in HRAS. The vast majority of affected patients share recurring variants affecting HRAS codons 12 and 13 and a relatively uniform phenotype. Here, we report the unique and attenuated phenotype of six individuals of an extended family affected by the HRAS variant c.176C>T p.(Ala59Gly), which, to our knowledge, has never been reported as a germline variant in patients so far. HRAS Alanine 59 has been previously functionally investigated as an oncogenic hotspot and the p.A

Family history of breast cancer, mammographic features of breast tissue, and breast cancer risk.

I reexamined the relations of family history of breast cancer in first-degree relatives, mammographic features of breast tissue, and breast cancer risk, using data from three case-control studies. Subjects included 1,047 cases with newly diagnosed breast cancer and 2,329 controls. Family history of breast cancer showed only a weak relation to mammographic features. In addition, while family history and mammographic features were each related to breast cancer risk, associations of these two factors with risk appeared additive. In contrast to previous reports, these data suggest that, to a large

Hostility, hostile detachment, and conflict engagement in marriages: effects on child and family functioning.

This study examined the relations between patterns of marital communication, child adjustment, and family functioning. Couples with a 4- or 5-year-old child were divided into three groups (N = 126) based on observed patterns of emotional communication: Hostile couples showed a cumulative increase in negative speaker behaviors over the course of a high-conflict marital discussion; hostile-withdrawn couples showed a cumulative increase in both negative speaker and negative listener behaviors over the course of the interaction; and engaged couples showed a cumulative increase in both positive spe

Hypergraph Mamba Reasoning-Based Social Relation Recognition.

Recognizing social relations from images is crucial for improving machine perception of social interactions. Current studies mainly focus on exploring single-type relation reasoning frameworks, such as the relation between father, mother and son in a family. However, real-world scenarios often involve complex hybrid relations, such as friendships and professional relations, which pose a challenge for current methods due to the difficulty of establishing robust logical connections between these relations. In fact, in this hybrid social relation recognition setting, the interactions extend beyon

Resilience Within Families of Young Children with ASD.

Resilience within families may temper the risk of high parenting stress faced by parents of young children with ASD. Within families, individual differences between parents may contribute differently to resilience. There is a lack in knowledge regarding the contribution of intrapersonal and contextual factors associated with resilience in parents of young children with ASD within the same family. In this cross-sectional study (n=249 individuals), resilience within families is addressed by investigating (1) family parenting stress, (2) associated factors contributing to maternal (n=87) and pate

[The parasite-host specificity of the itch mite Sarcoptes scabiei (Acariformes: Sarcoptidae) in man and animals (a review of the literature)].

The primary parasitic relations between the itch mite Sarcoptes scabiei (L.) and man are confirmed indirectly by the presence in the family Sarcoptidae of close genera, members of which parasitize primates. Judging from the composition of domestic and wild animals-hosts, the source of their infection with S. scabiei was man that gave rise to numerous forms of mites specific to individual species of hosts or their related groups belonging to different taxonomic ranks. Three types of host relations and, accordingly, forms of sarcoptosis are suggested at the infection from an alien host: pseudosa

PCR with degenerate primers for highly conserved DNA polymerase gene of the herpesvirus family shows neither human herpesvirus 8 nor a related variant in bone marrow stromal cells from multiple myeloma patients.

The possibility has been raised that either a human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) variant or a novel, unidentified, gamma-herpesvirus related to HHV-8 is frequently associated with multiple myeloma (MM), which could explain the lack of antibodies to HHV-8 antigens and the discordant results from polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies of HHV-8-specific sequences in MM patients. Thus, we used a sensitive PCR assay with degenerate primers targeting the highly conserved DNA polymerase gene of the herpesvirus family to examine the long-term cultures of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) from 19 MM, 3 monoc
