Mucormycosis is a rare life-threatening opportunistic infection caused by fungi of the order Mucorales. We report a case of rhinocerebral mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus arrhizus var. tonkinensis, the first formally reported case in the literature. Early diagnosis, reversal of predisposing factors, surgical debridement and prompt administration of antifungal therapy are critical for good outcome.

Acrodermatitis Enteropathica (AE) is an important nutritional disorder of children affecting both innate and cell mediated immunity. It predisposes to secondary bacterial and candida superinfections. We describe an infant with typical features of AE who had candida infection with a fulminant course. Need of early recognition and prompt initiation of therapy for fungal infection in AE is emphasized.

The clinical profile of typhoid fever in an infant is variable and non-specific. A rare case of typhoid fever in a 7 month old infant is reported. The child presented with only a day's history of fever and loose motions which resulted in severe dehydration, acute tubular necrosis and death. The diagnosis of typhoid fever was made only on post-mortem study. The problem in diagnosing typhoid fever in a young infant is highlighted with a brief literature review on the subject.

A four-month-old female infant having developmental delay, coarse facial features and dysostosis multiplex is reported with a special emphasis on the differential diagnosis among I-cell disease (ICD). Hurler syndrome and GM1 gangliosidosis. The lysosomal enzyme studies in cultured skin fibroblasts and serum sample of the patient certified the diagnosis of ICD. Foamy cell infiltration of some organs, including the lungs, and microgyria formation were also noted. Genetic counselling was provided and prenatal diagnosis was offered to the couple to detect ICD in the next pregnancy.
