Femoral neck and proximal epiphyseal lengths were measured in 37 femurs from 19 cadaver foals that were 1 day to 12 months old to determine the applicability of a human interfragmentary compression system to equine femoral capital physeal fractures. Because components of the implant system are available only in fixed sizes, its use was possible in foals older than 5 weeks of age, but not in younger foals. The primary source for the blood supply of the head of the femur is the deep branch of the medial femoral circumflex artery (MFCA). The ideal size of intramedullary device to fix corrective osteotomy of proximal femur in abnormal bone in children and small patients may not be easily available. We report the successful use of Rush rod in combination with multiple Kirschner wires to fix the corrective osteotomy of coxa vara and shepherd crook deformity in two patients with osteogenesis imperfecta and fibrous dysplasia. Between 1959 and 1978, 150 patients with tricholeucocytic leukaemia were seen, 5 having radiological bone lesions. This has been reported only once in the literature, its significance and therapeutic consequences remaining ill-defined. One of the commonest sites of bone involvement is the neck of the femur. The usual appearances are those of demineralisation, lysis and pathological fracture. The true prevalence of such lesions could be determined only by routine studies for the presence of such lesions.

After a survey of causation, symptoms and therapy of Perthe's disease, clinical and radiographic findings of 62 children treated conservatively are described. For evaluation the "plumpness quotient" is introduced, in addition to the known radius-, joint-surface- and epiphysus quotients, as a measure of deformity of head and neck of femur. Besides consequential avoidance of weight-bearing, age, length of history and first radiologic findings are of decisive importance. The results of conservative treatment are no worse than those of surgery.
