Antiretroviral therapy maintenance among HIV-positive women in Ghana: the influence of poverty.

This study examines the role of poverty in the acquisition of and the adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and prescribed clinical follow-up regimens among HIV-positive women. We conducted in-depth interviews with 40 women living with HIV (WLHIV) in Ghana and 15 stakeholders with a history of work in HIV-focused programs. Our findings indicate that financial difficulty contributed to limited ability to maintain treatment, the recommended nutrient-rich diet, and clinical follow-up schedules. However, enacted stigma and concurrent illness of family members also influenced the ability of the

What we know and what we need to learn about the treatment of dissociative disorders.

In this editorial, I briefly review research design issues and the current treatment research for dissociative disorders (DD), discuss the limitations and challenges of conducting treatment studies for patients with DD, and conclude by describing what I see as the first wave and second wave in the field of dissociation. Insurers and federally funded programs are increasingly requiring that treatment be empirically supported in order for treatment to be reimbursed. For example, psychoanalysis will no longer be reimbursed in The Netherlands because of what is perceived as a lack of empirical sup

Accessing the role of tourism, renewable energy, and green finance in shaping the sustainable future.

Worldwide efforts to achieve ecological sustainability include addressing the impact of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Additionally, the issue of lowering CO2 emissions in developed and industrialised nations, such as China, remains unsolved. Therefore, this study assesses the impacts of tourism, renewable energy, climate disasters, and financial development on carbon emissions in China for the period 1990-2022 by using Fourier Cointegration analysis under both triangular hypotheses using the ARDL approach and bivariate causality tests with a frequency domain structure. The study found that t

A Framework for the Administration of Anti-amyloid Monoclonal Antibody Treatments in Early-Stage Alzheimer's Disease.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of lecanemab for early-stage Alzheimer's disease (AD) represents an exciting new chapter in the management of neurodegenerative disease, but likewise presents numerous clinical, technical, and financial logistical challenges for both academic and non-academic medical institutions hoping to administer this drug. Minimal resources exist that provide guidance for establishing and maintaining a lecanemab treatment program at the institutional level. The current report aims to provide healthcare institutions a framework for the planning, onboarding

Ethics of the allocation of highly advanced medical technologies.

The disproportionate distribution of financial, educational, social, and medical resources between some rich countries of the northern hemisphere and less fortunate societies creates a moral challenge of global dimension. The development of new forms of highly advanced medical technologies, including neoorgans and xenografts, as well as the promotion of health literacy and predictive and preventive medical services might reduce some problems in allocational justice. Most governments and the World Health Organization (WHO) reject financial and other rewards for living organ donors thus indirect

Does the implementation of economic policies connected to climate change depend on monetary policy mandates and financial stability governance structures?

The objective of the proposed research study is to examine how the economic policy mandates and governance frameworks of central banks affect the implementation of climate-related economic measures. Empirical evidence supports a positive correlation between the adoption of climate-related economic policies and a broader mandate for monetary policy. The existing body of research contradicts the idea that an enhanced framework for governing economic stability will result in higher implementation of financial measures related to climate change. The study, which focuses on China from 2015 to 2023,

Women, work, and preventive health care: an exploratory study of the efficacy of HMO membership.

This study's purpose is to explore the possibility of competing roles (paid employment and childcare responsibilities) impinging upon women's annual Pap, breast and blood pressure screenings, and whether HMO enrollments further preventive health care for women in different situations. Using data from the National Access to Medical Care Survey of 1982, the sample includes 594 women who are HMO patients, and 2765 women having regular sources of care from providers in other settings. The findings indicate a strong association between women's relative financial responsibilities for their families

Multidimensional social support and the health of homeless individuals.

Homeless individuals often suffer from serious health problems. It has been argued that the homeless are socially isolated, with low levels of social support and social functioning, and that this lack of social resources contributes to their ill health. These observations suggest the need to further explore the relationship between social networks, social support, and health among persons who are homeless. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between multidimensional (cognitive/perceived and behavioral/received) social support and health outcomes, including physical health

Financial arrangements for rehabilitation services in health systems: an overview of systematic reviews.

BACKGROUND: Cochrane Rehabilitation and the World Health Organization (WHO) Rehabilitation Programme have collaborated to produce four Cochrane overviews of systematic reviews that synthesize current available evidence from health policy and systems research (HPSR) in rehabilitation. Each overview focuses on one of the four pillars of HPSR as identified by the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care (EPOC) taxonomy: delivery arrangements, financial arrangements, governance arrangements, and implementation strategies. This overview focuses on financial arrangements, which Cochrane

Economic impact of a large-scale scabies upsurge on healthcare facilities in Rohingya refugee camps: A retrospective costing study.

Scabies is one of the common infectious skin conditions globally, with a significantly high burden in hot and tropical countries, and resource-poor settings. Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar are one of the most protracted refugee crises in the world, sheltering approximately 1,143,096 refugees. While most existing literature focuses on mass drug administration (MDA) interventions or community-level estimates, the economic burden of scabies on health system is rarely studied. This is a retrospective costing study, where we used financial and epidemiological data from January 2021 to Decemb

Financial incentives to increase engagement across the hepatitis C care cascade among people at risk of or diagnosed with hepatitis C: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Reversing declining rates of people initiating and completing hepatitis C (HCV) treatment, observed in many countries, is needed to achieve global HCV elimination goals. Providing financial incentives to increase HCV testing and treatment uptake among people at-risk of or living with HCV infection could be an effective intervention. We conducted a systematic review to assess evidence regarding the effectiveness of financial incentives to improve engagement and progression through the HCV care cascade. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, PubMed and EMBASE for studies published from Janua
