A 22-year-old Japanese man with a mediastinal germ cell tumor with mixed teratoma and hepatoid alpha-fetoprotein positive, and glandular yolk sac components, also demonstrated widely disseminated malignant histiocytosis involving the lungs, liver, pancreas, spleen, bone marrow and lymph nodes. Sensitivity to chemotherapy was acute and the patient died of disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome within four months of his initial presentation.

Three cases of "dedifferentiated" chordoma arising in the sacrococcygeal region are presented. In all three cases, the "dedifferentiated" component arose de novo in conjunction with conventional chordoma. Fourteen children, 4 males and 10 females, with malignant histiocytosis (MH) were treated between July 1980 and June 1986. None of them had an affected sibling with a similar disorder. Septic-type fever was the most prominent symptom in all cases. There are different frequencies in the immunological phenotypes of malignant lymphomas in Tohoku and Kyushu districts of Japan. In the Tohoku district, the northern area of Honshu, B-cell lymphomas are more preponderant than T-cell lymphomas. This is just the reverse on the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku. Histologically diffuse lymphoma of large cell type, formerly termed reticulum cell sarcoma or histiocytic lymphoma, was the most frequent (48%) among B-cell lymphomas. It is characteristic of B-cell lymphoma that immunoglobulin is produced in either or both the cellular surface and cytoplasm.
