Immunological investigation of individuals with toluene diisocyanate asthma.

Thirteen subjects who experienced only the expected irritant respiratory and ocular effects from occupational exposure to toluene diisocyanate (TDI) were compared with eight workers who appeared clinically to be sensitized to this substance, as manifested by the prompt development of asthmatic symptoms on exposure to minute concentrations of TDI. In an attempt to document an immunological response to TDI in the latter group, several conjugates of TDI with human serum albumin were prepared. Gel diffusion, leucocyte histamine release, PCA in guinea-pigs, passive haemagglutination, passive transf

Effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Individualized Physical Therapy on Pain and Function in Individuals With Chronic Knee Pain: A Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Noninvasive brain stimulation is a promising neuromodulatory intervention for chronic pain. This study aimed to determine the impact that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in combination with individualized physical therapy (PT) has on pain and function in individuals with chronic knee pain. METHODS: This study was a preliminary pragmatic, triple-blinded, randomized, and sham-controlled clinical trial performed in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy clinic. Participants participated in 5 sessions of active or sham tDCS followed by individualized PT i

Impulsivity and sexual compulsivity - a comparison of untreated individuals with CSBD, individuals undergoing long-term treatment for CSBD, and a healthy control group.

BACKGROUND: Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) has been classified in the eleventh revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as an impulse control disorder. Impulsivity, risk-taking, and compulsivity play an important role in CSBD. AIMS: The present study aims to examine impulsivity and sexual compulsivity by comparing three groups: untreated individuals with CSBD, individuals undergoing long-term treatment for CSBD, and a healthy control group. The study aims to use questionnaires and computerized tasks measuring risk-taking and delay discounting in order to i

Efficacy of iron supplementation on physical capacity in non-anaemic iron-deficient individuals: protocol for an individual patient data meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: A deficiency in iron stores is associated with various adverse health complications, which, if left untreated, can progress to states of anaemia, whereby there is significant detriment to an individual's work capacity and quality of life due to compromised erythropoiesis. The most common methods employed to treat an iron deficiency include oral iron supplementation and, in persistent and/or unresponsive cases, intravenous iron therapy. The efficacy of these treatments, particularly in states of iron deficiency without anaemia, is equivocal. Indeed, both randomised control trials an

Analysis of the centre of pressure in bipedal stance among individuals with and without intellectual disabilities, individuals with Down syndrome and dancers with Down syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with intellectual disabilities (IDs) often present deficiencies in motor, balance and postural control. On the other hand, the practice of physical activity and dance usually reduces these deficiencies. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to compare the control of the centre of pressure (COP) in people with Down syndrome (DS) or other causes of ID in relation to people without disabilities and to observe the influence of vision and the practice of dance. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyses the COP in a static standing position with open and closed eyes in four
