Peer rejection and internet gaming disorder: the mediating role of relative deprivation and the moderating role of grit.

BACKGROUND: Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is a new behavioral addiction. A large number of empirical studies have shown that Internet Gaming Disorder has a high level of comorbidity with other diseases, including depression, anxiety, obesity, internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems, however, little is known about the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relation. The current study adopted a three-time longitudinal study investing the mediating effect of relative deprivation on the association between peer rejection and IGD, and whether this mediating effect was mode

Antiperspirant use as a risk factor for breast cancer in Iraq.

Some internet communications have addressed the link between antiperspirant use and breast cancer. We studied the possible association between the use of antiperspirants and some other factors with the development of breast cancer in Al-Kadhmia teaching hospital. Thus, 54 cases of breast cancer and 50 controls were interviewed. We found 82.0% of the controls used antiperspirants compared with 51.8% of cases (P< 0.05). The use of antiperspirants had no association with the risk of breast cancer, while family history and oral contraceptives use were found to be associated.

Introducing virtual microscopy at the University of Ghana during the COVID-19 pandemic-Identifying and overcoming obstacles in a low-resource learning environment.

The introduction of new educational technologies into resource-challenged learning environments is often hindered by several factors, with the lack of infrastructure and computer hardware being only one critical aspect. The COVID-19 pandemic required a sudden switch to online learning and accelerated the implementation of e-learning approaches worldwide. This study follows the adoption of virtual microscopy (VM) during the COVID-19 pandemic by medical and dental students at the University of Ghana (UG) for the learning of histology and the changes that were the result of this transformation. The role of psychological distress in understanding the relationship between habitual decision-making and addictive behaviors.

Existing models are currently inadequate in explaining the relationship between habitual decision-making and different expressions of addictive behaviors. The current study investigates the role of psychological distress as a key factor in disrupting decision-making processes in the context of substance and behavioral addictions. A large community sample (N = 668) completed a gamified two-stage task to investigate the link between model-free (habitual) task behavior and a wide range of addictive behaviors. Addictive behaviors included substance use (alcohol, nicotine, and illicit drug use) and

Consumption patterns before and during the COVID-19 pandemic among patients admitted to inpatient drug detoxification treatment: Results of two cross-sectional surveys from 2018 and 2021.

BACKGROUND: The lockdown measures during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic could have influenced drug consumption patterns of persons with drug use disorder, especially due to a reduced availability of drugs, an increased consumption of sedating substances as a coping strategy, or a shift to novel psychotropic substances (NPS) associated with an increased drug buying in the internet. In this study, the consumption patterns of people mainly with opioid use disorder entering inpatient drug detoxification treatment were investigated in the same hospitals with the same methods before and during the pandemic

Technology use to facilitate health care among young adult transgender women living with HIV.

Little is known about how young adult transgender women living with HIV use digital technologies to facilitate their health care. This study examined the use of digital technologies to search for health information and support HIV care among young adult transgender women living with HIV (N = 130) in Los Angeles County, California. About half used the Internet "all the time" to search for transgender-specific resources (TSR; 53.8%) and for sexual health information (SHI; 51.5%). Less than half (39.2%) received digital HIV care reminders and, of those taking ART medication (n = 63), 36.5% receiv

What do the potential recipients of disclosure of OSA say? Perspectives from adolescent residents in Scotland and Chile.

BACKGROUND: With the increase in internet use, new forms of child victimization like Online Sexual Abuse (OSA) have emerged. Children and adolescents rarely disclose these incidents and most disclosure happens around peers. OBJECTIVE: This research addresses the perspective of adolescents (not victims of OSA), potential recipients of the disclosure, within the context of disclosure of OSA committed by either adult or peer perpetrators. METHODS: The study was performed in two stages. We interviewed adolescents in Scotland and then conducted focus groups with adolescents from Chile. PARTICIPA…
