Nocardiosis is an acute, subacute or chronic infectious disease that occurs in cutaneous, pulmonary and disseminated forms. We present a case of Nocardiosis in a post-COVID-19 patient with cutaneous ulceration due to Nocardia otitidiscaviarum, managed with cotrimoxazole and linezolid. Early diagnosis and management proved crucial in preventing dissemination of the organism and improving the patient's outcome.

We conducted a retrospective review to characterize adverse events in patients receiving oral linezolid, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, voriconazole, and itraconazole monitored under an outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy program. Among 118 patients, 61% incurred at least 1 adverse event during treatment, highlighting the need for evidence-based monitoring protocols for complex outpatient antimicrobial therapy.

We describe the development of nonsusceptibility to daptomycin and vancomycin during treatment for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia associated with infective endocarditis and probable septic thrombophlebitis in a uremic patient. MRSA bacteremia persisted during glycopeptide and subsequent daptomycin treatment but cleared after 5 days' treatment with linezolid and fusidic acid.

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance threatens the successful treatment of pneumococcal infections. Here we report a case of bacteremic pneumonia caused by an extremely drug-resistant strain of Streptococcus pneumoniae, nonsusceptible to at least one agent in all classes but vancomycin and linezolid, posing an important new public health threat in our region.

MICs of daptomycin, linezolid, and vancomycin against 212 isolates, including Listeria monocytogenes and Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, Rhodococcus, and Nocardia spp., were determined by the broth microdilution method; daptomycin MICs were also determined by the Etest. Except with those for Leuconostoc spp., daptomycin Etest MICs showed >90% agreement with MICs obtained by the broth microdilution method.
