Lipidomic profiling of extracellular vesicles from breast and metastatic triple-negative breast cancer cell lines for identification of potential biomarkers.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains a highly aggressive disease with limited therapeutic options, and metastasis is the leading cause of patient mortality which highlights a major unmet medical need. Nevertheless, the mechanisms regulating metastatic progression remain poorly understood. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have recently emerged as key mediators of the intercellular communication. Ubiquitously secreted, these nanoparticles provide a convenient and informative glimpse into cellular physiology given that their molecular composition shall reflect the state of their parent cell.

Maternal bis-glycinate bound zinc supplementation alters sow performance and milk metabolomic-lipidomic profiles and mitigates piglet diarrhea.

Dietary zinc supplementation to piglets reduces diarrhea and improves growth, yet the effects of maternal zinc supplementation on milk and subsequent piglet performance remain unclear. This study evaluated the impact of maternal zinc supplementation on sow, piglet, and lactation performances. Thirty-six crossbred sows were randomized to CON (standard diet; n = 18) or TRT (standard diet supplemented with 1 g/sow/day of bis-glycinate bound zinc; n = 18) from day 85 of gestation to day 21 of lactation. Sow and piglet performance were recorded. Blood was collected at farrowing to determine serum m

Exposure to the antimicrobial peptides LL-37 and ATRA-1 induces a lipidome response in Staphylococcus aureus that alters membrane biophysical properties.

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is an opportunistic pathogen that is a global health concern for its ability to cause a wide spectrum of clinical infections ranging from minor skin abscesses to systemic conditions such as sepsis and pneumonia. Due to the emergence of resistance to commonly used antibiotics, there has been interest in exploring the use of antimicrobial peptides to treat S. aureus infections. However, changes in the lipid composition of the lipid bilayer membrane can alter the activity of peptides, and S. aureus is able to induce variations in lipid composition in response to

Combined serum lipid levels and lipidomic analysis reveals effects of Eimeria maxima and Eimeria tenella infection on lipid metabolism in chicken.

Chicken coccidiosis caused by Eimeria spp. has serious adverse effects on the global poultry industry. Previous studies have found Eimeria infection disrupts the absorption of nutrients and the efficiency of utilization of protein and energy in the diet. However, the effects of Eimeria infection on the absorption and utilization of dietary lipids are poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Eimeria infection on dietary lipid absorption and to reveal possible mechanism influencing lipid metabolism in chicken. Forty-five 28-day-old yellow-feather chickens were allocated

Lipoprotein subclasses compensate the classic atherogenic lipid profile of women with polycystic ovary syndrome, but common antiandrogenic treatments worsen their lipidome.

OBJECTIVES: Patterns of circulating inflammatory glycoproteins and lipoprotein subclasses are not well-defined in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We aimed to describe these profiles and effects of drug intervention on those parameters. DESIGN: Cross-sectional and longitudinal interventional prospective studies. METHODS: The cross-sectional study included 340 patients with PCOS and 92 non-hyperandrogenic women. Glycoprotein and lipoprotein profiles were measured by proton-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We also analyzed their changes after treatment with metformin, an oral contrace

Anti-oxidant response of lipidom modulates lipid metabolism in Caenorhabditis elegans and in OxLDL-induced human macrophages by tuning inflammatory mediators.

Atherosclerosis is the main pathological process of several cardiovascular diseases. It may begin early in life and stay latent and asymptomatic for an extended period before its clinical manifestation. The formation of foamy macrophages due to dysregulated lipid metabolism is a key event in the development and progression of atherosclerotic plaque. The current pharmacotherapy for atherosclerosis is not able to address multiple aetiologies associated with the disease. Lipidom, an herbal prescription medicine, has anti-oxidant, lipid lowering and anti-inflammatory properties that lead to multif

Lipidomic profiling of peritoneal lavage supernatant identifies PE/PA/PI-enriched recurrence biomarkers in cytology-negative gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal dissemination accounts for more than 40% of recurrences after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer. Although peritoneal lavage cytology (CY) is routinely used to detect intraperitoneal free cancer cells, peritoneal recurrence still occurs in a subset of CY-negative patients. Novel molecular biomarkers are urgently needed to identify high-risk individuals within this cohort. METHODS: Direct flow injection quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (DFI-Q-TOF-MS) in negative ion mode was applied to profile peritoneal lavage supernatants from gastric cancer patients str

A lipidomic and flavoromic approach to map the lipid profile and related volatile flavor compounds in the fresh breast meat of chickens fed curcumin.

This study utilized multi-omics techniques to thoroughly characterize the volatile flavor compounds (VOCs) and lipids present in the breast muscle of chickens. These chickens were fed diets supplemented with 500 mg/kg curcumin (CUR) for 42 consecutive days. The findings revealed a significantly lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the chicken breast muscle of the CUR group compared to lower than that in the CON group (0.37 vs. 0.50; P<0.05), indicating reduced lipid oxidation. However, no significant difference in IMF content was observed between the two groups (P = 0.63). Furthermore, the f
