The prognostic roles of hypogammaglobulinemia and hypocomplementemia in newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most frequent type of lymphoma. Our retrospective study included 553 newly diagnosed DLBCL patients from May 2009 to October 2019. The relationships between hypogammaglobulinemia, hypocomplementemia and progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed. In our center, 19.0% of patients had hypogammaglobulinemia, and 7.7% had hypocomplementemia at diagnosis. Immunoglobulin and complement deficiencies were associated with advanced disease and displayed inferior PFS and OS. Then, we designed a new immunization cumulative prognosti

Rare malignant ulcer related to primary intestinal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: A case report.

RATIONALE: The specific pathogenesis of the diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL)is still indefinite and argumentative. It is known that DLBCL is the most common type of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL). A lot of cases of DLBCL such as primary gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(PG-DLBCL) are reported. However, primary intestinal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(PI-DLBCL) is unusual. PATIENT CONCERNS: We present a case of a 57-year-old male diagnosed in the Gastroenterology Department, which presented a bleeding duodenal ulcer with irregular borders. DIAGNOSES: The immunohistochemical staining sh

Infectious mononucleosis mimicking Epstein-Barr virus positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified.

The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis (IM). In the case of atypical presentation, lymph node and tonsillar biopsies are required to rule out lymphoma. Here, we discuss an 83-year-old male who presented with findings suggestive of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which was later ruled out in favor of IM. The distinction between IM and lymphomas is quite challenging due to the extensive overlap between the two diseases. Various studies have demonstrated that EBV-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma mimics IM due to large B-cell proliferation in acute EBV infection. We sugg

Emerging role of histone deacetylase inhibitors in the treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Although current immunochemotherapy has increased the therapeutic efficacy in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), there are still some patients who present unfavorable outcomes. Novel effective treatment strategies are needed to improve the prognosis of DLBCL. In this review, we discussed the functional mechanisms and therapeutic applications of histone deacetylases inhibitors (HDIs) in DLBCL from preclinical and clinical studies. The mechanistic rationale of HDIs involved a wide range of effects including the regulation of transcription factors, tumor suppressors, and cell surface molecule

Primary Dural Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma: A Comprehensive Review of Survival and Treatment Outcomes.

Primary dural diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (PD-DLBCL) is a rare and aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that can present in intracranial or intraspinal locations. Although the optimal management is unknown, PD-DLBCL therapy is often mirrored after primary central nervous system lymphoma therapy and aggressive treatment with a high dose methotrexate-based regimen is frequently used. Our comprehensive, retrospective study of 24 reported cases of PD-DLBCL provide the most complete analysis of this rare disease including data on biology, treatment outcomes, and survival. Our findings demonstra

Eosinophilic Dermatosis of Myeloproliferative Disease in a Young Adult With Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

Exaggerated insect bite reactions present as exuberant papular and vesiculobullous lesions in patients with hematologic malignant neoplasms. The most commonly reported hematological malignancy with exaggerated insect bite reactions is chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Other reported reactions have been seen in patients with mantle cell lymphoma. Clinical presentation may vary with many patients unaware of a previous insect bite. Therefore, the terms "exaggerated bite-like reaction" and "eosinophilic dermatosis of myeloproliferative disease" have been proposed. The lesions may wax and wane or persi

Rare cases of primary central nervous system anaplastic variant of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: Primary central nervous system (CNS) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a rare intracranial tumor, defined as DLBCL arising from the brain, spinal cord, leptomeninges and eye, with an overall annual incidence of 5 cases per million. The primary CNS anaplastic variant of DLBCL (A-DLBCL) is even less common; to our knowledge, there are only two other case reports in the literature. The aim of this report is to present rare cases of primary CNS A-DLBCL and study their clinicopathologic and genetic features. CASE PRESENTATION: We report 3 patients, two men and one woman, aged 54

Phase 2 Study of Dose-Reduced Consolidation Radiation Therapy in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of reducing the dose of consolidation radiation therapy (RT) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. METHODS AND MATERIALS: This phase 2 study enrolled patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified and primary mediastinal (thymic) large B-cell lymphoma in complete response on positron emission tomography-computed tomography imaging after ≥4 cycles of a rituximab/anthracycline-containing combination chemotherapy regimen. Consolidation RT used a dose of 19.5 to 20 Gy. The primary endpoint was 5-year freedom from local recurrence. RESULTS: S

[Clinical characteristics and treatment strategies for early-stage primary gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma].

Objective: Primary gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (PG-DLBCL) is the most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) of extranodal origin. Most patients with PG-DLBCL had localized disease (stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ) at presentation, and will achieve complete response (CR) after induction chemotherapy. However, there has been little consensus regarding whether optimal treatment is provided by chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy plus radiotherapy, nor the treatment outcome from the addition of rituximab in localized-stage PG-DLBCL. Methods: Patients with Stage ⅠE and ⅡE PG-DLBCL were retrospectively analyzed. P

An unusual presentation of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with ureteric involvement: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of malignancies in the lymphoid system and ureteric involvement by non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is very rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a 37-year-old male, presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms and right flank pain. Initially, he presented with lower urinary tract symptoms without having any evidence of urinary tract infection and was managed for nonspecific cystitis. His ureteral histopathology report indicated a diffused infiltration by malignant lymphoid cells and the final diagnosis revealed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

Adrenal relapse of primary central nervous system diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: A case report.

RATIONALE: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a dismal outcome. Most patients relapse in intracranial sites and <5% of patients relapse in extracranial sites. Here, we present the first case of PCNSL with an adrenal relapse. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 72-year-old woman, first presented 7 years ago with complaints of headache and dizziness. DIAGNOSES: Enhanced magnetic resonance imaging revealed the mass within the splenium of the corpus callosum. On histological examination, there was a diffuse growth pattern of neoplastic cells in the brain

Maintenance therapy following induction chemoimmunotherapy in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: current perspective.

BACKGROUND: Maintenance therapy has proven efficacy in indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), yet its role in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is an area of ongoing investigation. While DLBCL is potentially curable, >30% of patients relapse following front-line therapy and have a poor prognosis, especially those with refractory disease. Maintenance therapy holds promise to maintain response post-induction. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Keyword searches were carried out in PubMed and congress abstracts of 'diffuse large B-cell lymphoma' and 'maintenance' and focused on phase II/III studies of maint

RelA NF-κB subunit activation as a therapeutic target in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

It has been well established that nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) activation is important for tumor cell growth and survival. RelA/p65 and p50 are the most common NF-kB subunits and involved in the classical NF-kB pathway. However, the prognostic and biological significance of RelA/p65 is equivocal in the field. In this study, we assessed RelA/p65 nuclear expression by immunohistochemistry in 487 patients with de novo diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and studied the effects of molecular and pharmacological inhibition of NF-kB on cell viability. We found RelA/p65 nuclear expression, withou
