BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are severe complications of diabetes, and treatment options for DFUs are limited. Current research o … promoted eIF4E-eIF4G assembly. In diabetic mice, tdASC-EVs accelerated wound closure and increased microvascular density, which correlated with reduced p16 expression and increased CD31 and p-4EBP1 expression. In the Bama miniature pig diabetic large animal model, tdASC-EVs exhibited markedly superior therapeutic effects compared with those induced by conventional ADS …

This cross-sectional study investigated the correlation between choriocapillaris flow area (CCFA) and retinal vascular changes in diabetic macular ischemia (DMI) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Age-matched participants were divided into three groups: control (46 eyes), diabetic without macular ischemia (Non-DMI, 59 eyes), and diabetic with macular ischemia (DMI, 54 eyes). Correlation analyses between CCFA and retinal capillary density were performed using OCTA. Results showed that CCFA was significantly reduced in the DMI group compared to the control and Non-DMI groups

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a valuable 'home treatment' option, even more so during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. However, the long-term use of PD is limited by unfavourable tissue remodelling in the peritoneal membrane, which is associated with inflammation-induced angiogenesis. This appears to be driven primarily through vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), while the involvement of other angiogenic signaling pathways is still poorly understood. Here, we have identified the crucial contribution of mesothelial cell-derived angiogenic CXC chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1) to peritoneal angio

BACKGROUND: After early revascularisation, restoration of macrocirculatory perfusion parameters is the primary objective in the management of cardiogenic shock complicated acute myocardial infarction. Nevertheless, vital organ perfusion may be compromised at the systemic microcirculatory level, even in patients with preserved macrohaemodynamics. Microvascular perfusion was shown to have independent prognostic value for early mortality. The present study aims to compare the prognostic value of microcirculatory versus macrocirculatory perfusion parameters.
METHODS: This substudy of the culprit

OBJECTIVES: Microcirculatory dysfunction is known to be associated with organ failure and increased mortality in transplant patients. Noninvasive monitorization of retinal structures of the eye could be a predictor for systemic microvasculature in these patients. Therefore, in this study we aimed to evaluate the retinal microvascular changes in pediatric patients who had undergone liver or renal transplant surgery, using optical coherence tomography angiography.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The medical records of pediatric patients who had liver or renal transplant in the past 10 years were reviewe

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by microvascular, neural and glial cell damage. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) can detect subclinical microvasculopathy while multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) can detect subclinical local retinal dysfunction before onset of clinically observable retinopathy. Here, we investigated the relationship between retinal dysfunction in multifocal electroretinography and vascular changes in optical coherence tomography angiography.
METHODS: The study included 63 eyes of 63 diabetic patients without retinopathy (DM+DR-) and 68 eyes

The glycosphingolipidosis, Gaucher disease, in which a range of neurological manifestations occur, results from a deficiency of acid β-glucocerebrosidase, with subsequent accumulation of β-glucocerebroside, its upstream substrates, and the non-acylated congener β-glucosylsphingosine. However, the mechanisms by which end-organ dysfunction arise are poorly understood. Here, we report strikingly diminished cerebral microvascular density in a murine model of disease, and provide a detailed analysis of the accompanying cerebral glycosphingolipidome in these animals, with marked elevations of β-gluc…

Skeletal muscle capillary density is correlated with physical performance and whole-body metabolic properties. Thus, we performed a genome-wide association study of skeletal muscle capillary-to-fiber ratio (C:F) (n = 603 males) and found that the rs115660502 G allele was associated (p < 5 × 10-8) with increased C:F and reduced skeletal muscle expression of RAB3 GTPase-activating non-catalytic protein subunit 2 (RAB3GAP2). The capillary-increasing G allele was more prevalent in elite endurance athletes than in power athletes and non-athlete controls in two independent cohorts. Low-muscle-expres

BACKGROUND: Endocan, a component of endothelial glycocalyx, is a recognized biomarker of endothelial dysfunction in various inflammatory and infectious diseases. Malaria, characterized by marked endothelial activation and microvascular pathology, may involve endocan, but its role remains unclear. This study aimed to assess serum endocan levels in various clinical presentations of malaria and evaluate its correlation with laboratory parameters of disease severity.
METHODS: Leftover serum samples from 99 participants were categorized into four groups: healthy controls (n = 20), Plasmodium vivax
