Barriers, Facilitators, and Strategies for Sustaining the Hospital-Wide "One Bed" Model in China: A Single-Centre Descriptive Qualitative Study of Healthcare Professionals' Perspectives.

Background: Hospital-wide centralized bed allocation, known in China as the "one-bed-for-the-whole-hospital" model, aims to improve inpatient access by pooling beds across specialties. Existing studies have mainly examined operational outcomes, process risks, or staff competence. Less is known about how bed redistribution interacts with clinical responsibility, professional roles, functional support, and shared governance. Objectives: This study explored healthcare professionals' perspectives on the barriers, facilitators, and strategies for sustaining the hospital-wide "One Bed" model. It als

Workplace violence predicts depression and anxiety in nurses: a multi-center longitudinal study in China.

BACKGROUND: Workplace violence (WPV) is a growing occupational threat to nurses' mental health, particularly under the strain of high-demand healthcare systems. Yet, longitudinal evidence on its psychological impact remains limited. METHODS: This prospective cohort study drew on data from the Chinese Nurses' Mental Health Study (NMHS), including 63,295 nurses across multiple centers. Cox regression models, propensity score matching, and subgroup analyses were conducted to assess the effects of WPV on depression and anxiety symptoms. The Job Demands-Resources (JDR) model served as the theoreti

Are Doctors the Best People to Manage Gout? Is There a Role for Nurses and Pharmacists?

To discuss alternate models of long-term gout management RECENT FINDINGS: Nurse-led care of gout appears to improve the uptake of and adherence to urate-lowering treatment in a research setting. Less impressive improvements were achieved with pharmacist-led remote management of gout; however, both strategies were more effective than usual primary care provider management of gout. Individualised education about gout, patient involvement in decision-making, and access to trained support in managing side-effects and gout flares can improve the uptake of fine and adherence to urate-lowering treatm

Assessing trauma exposure and predicting depression risk among female nurses: Development of a trauma exposure load index and application of machine learning approaches.

BACKGROUND: Depression among nurses is an important occupational health concern, but identifying nurses at higher risk remains challenging because work-related exposures are heterogeneous and often measured separately. Occupational trauma-related experiences, including adverse clinical events, workplace violence, bullying, threats and sexual harassment, may differ in frequency and severity, and simple event counts may not adequately capture their relevance to mental health risk. OBJECTIVE: To derive a weighted occupational trauma exposure burden score among female nurses and examine its assoc

Problematic Risk Adjustment in National Healthcare Safety Network Measures.

This article reviews the risk-adjustment models underpinning the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) standardized infection ratios. After first describing the models, the authors focus on hospital intensive care unit (ICU) designation as a variable employed across the various risk models. The risk-adjusted frequency with which ICU services are reported in Medicare fee-for-service claims data was compared as a proxy for determining whether reporting of ICU days is similar across hospitals. Extreme variation was found in the reporting of ICU utilization among admissions for congestive hear

The effects of positive cognitions on the relationship between alienation and resourcefulness in nursing students in Egypt.

Alienation is a subjective state, a feeling of being a stranger, as if one were not one's normal self. It is also a sense of homelessness; a feeling of uneasiness or discomfort, which signifies the person's exclusion from social or cultural participation. Alienation can adversely affect healthy functioning of nursing students. Nursing students are the adolescents of today and the nurses of tomorrow who will deal with human behavior, and their psychological well-being will be important in managing their clients' conditions. Healthy nursing students are likely to become healthy nurses who can th

Network of job demands-resources and depressive symptoms in critical care nurses: a nationwide cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Critical care nurses are vulnerable to depression, which not only lead to poor well-being and increased turnover intention, but also affect their working performances and organizational productivity as well. Work related factors are important drivers of depressive symptoms. However, the non-liner and multi-directional relationships between job demands-resources and depressive symptoms in critical care nurses has not been adequately analyzed. Understanding these relationships would be helpful for reducing depression, increasing nurses' well-being and retain healthcare forces. METHO

Integrating science, practice and reflexivity--cognitive therapy with driving phobia.

The scientist-practitioner model has long been espoused within cognitive behavioural psychotherapy. The study includes an evaluation of the efficacy of cognitive therapy for driving phobia. Assessment, formulation and practical treatment of this common problem are also reported. Self-report measures evaluated results. Eight of the 10 consecutive cases improved significantly and reported that the intervention was acceptable. A reflexive analysis of the research findings and the influences on the first author's practice as a researcher and practitioner are also explored. Recommendations for futu
