Multi-scale attentional feature fusion-based traffic sign detection using image dehazing process of SPP-CAE and improved optimization of YOLOv9 model.

For Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic sign detection plays an essential role for autonomous vehicles to validate the condition of the roads more precisely. However, the environmental concerns, such as obstacles, lighting, and weather, may have an impact on the performance of the existing traffic sign detection systems. To overcome these problems, a model that uses a multi-scale-based learning network and image dehazing approach is developed in this work for traffic sign detection. At first, the required images are collected, and the input images undergo the pre-processing step.

[Determinants of cellular atypia detection in the cervical screening program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil].

OBJECTIVE: To identify the main determinants of cellular atypia detection in the cervical screening program in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, using data from the Cervical Cancer Information System SISCOLO. METHODS: A random sample of 65 535 Pap smears performed in 2007 was obtained from SISCOLO. This sample was used to produce a logistic regression model to identify variables that impact the process of detecting cellular atypia. A ROC curve was used to define the most suitable cutoff point to classify the presence or absence of atypia. A sensitivity analysis was performed to assess the

Cardiac rehabilitation delivery in low/middle-income countries.

OBJECTIVE: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) availability, programme characteristics and barriers are not well-known in low/middle-income countries (LMICs). In this study, they were compared with high-income countries (HICs) and by CR funding source. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was administered to CR programmes globally. Need for CR was computed using incident ischaemic heart disease (IHD) estimates from the Global Burden of Disease study. General linear mixed models were performed. RESULTS: CR was identified in 55/138 (39.9%) LMICs; 47/55 (85.5% country response rate) countries parti

Adopting a Sustainable Community of Practice Model when Developing a Service to Support Patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB): A Stakeholder-Centered Approach.

OBJECTIVES: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare, genetic skin condition that is complicated, distressing, and painful and permeates every aspect of patients' lives. Support services are essential for meeting the primary needs of patients and families living with EB; however, provision is challenged by many complex issues. In collaboration with the patient organization DEBRA Ireland, this research conducted an in-depth analysis of Irish healthcare support services for EB, with a view to moving towards an improved and sustainable care pathway. METHODS: A sustainable community of practice model

The impact of aggregating serogroups in dynamic models of Neisseria meningitidis transmission.

BACKGROUND: Neisseria meningitidis (Nm) is a pathogen of multiple serogroups that is highly prevalent in many populations. Serogroups associated with invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in Canada, for example, include A, B, C, W-135, X and Y. IMD is a rare but serious outcome of Nm infection, and can be prevented with vaccines that target certain serogroups. This has stimulated the development of dynamic models to evaluate vaccine impact. However, these models typically aggregate the various Nm serogroups into a small number of combined groups, instead of modelling each serogroup individually

Does an acute care surgical model improve the management and outcome of acute cholecystitis?

The aim of this study was to compare the management and outcome of acute cholecystitis in an acute care surgery (ACS) model to that of the traditional home-call attending surgeon. The ACS model is one in which a consultant led team manage all emergency surgical presentations. The consultant is involved with every decision made including theatre allocation. Records of all patients who underwent an emergency cholecystectomy in the 2 years before and after introduction of an ACS model were reviewed. A total of 202 patients were recruited into this study. The groups were matched for sex, age and i

The "coherent majority average" for juries' evaluation processes.

I propose a method to synthesize the performance scores for artistic sports such as rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating, synchronized swimming, and diving by taking into account inter-judge variability, while maintaining all the reliable scores. This procedure is based on the assumption that the majority of the scores in each event are reliable and they relate well to those scores that are closest to them. The method consists of putting scores in order and considering clusters of m consecutive scores, where m is the number of judges making up the simple majority. For each cluster, the differen

Patient, facility, and community determinants of timely follow up after abnormal screening mammograms in Appalachia: A multilevel analysis.

PURPOSE: Examine the extent that community and organizational characteristics influence mammogram recall and biopsy rates in Appalachia. METHODS: We collected facility survey and Medicare claims (2016-2018) data on 191 FDA-registered breast imaging organizations serving 2.65 million women in 5 Appalachian states (KY, OH, PA, VA, and WV). Primary outcomes were recall rates and time to recall and biopsy. Generalized linear mixed-effects models (GLMM) (patient level with facility random intercepts) and facility-level structural equation models were used to evaluate multilevel predictors of recal

Developmental Systems Cardiology II: Implementing a Lifespan Model for Clinical Practice.

Survival for children with congenital heart disease (CHD) has improved substantially because of advances in surgery, intensive care, imaging, and interventional cardiology. As congenital cardiology evolves into a lifespan discipline, healthcare systems must also address neurodevelopmental vulnerability, psychosocial adaptation, educational disruption, transition complexity, and chronic multisystem disease in adulthood. Although developmental and systems-oriented models of care are emerging, practical guidance for implementation within routine congenital cardiology programs remains limited. Thi

A hierarchy of processing complexity and timescales for natural sounds in the human auditory cortex.

Efficient behavior is supported by humans' ability to rapidly recognize acoustically distinct sounds as members of a common category. Within the auditory cortex, critical unanswered questions remain regarding the organization and dynamics of sound categorization. We performed intracerebral recordings during epilepsy surgery evaluation as 20 patient-participants listened to natural sounds. We then built encoding models to predict neural responses using sound representations extracted from different layers within a deep neural network (DNN) pretrained to categorize sounds from acoustics. This ap

Observers penalize decision makers whose risk preferences are unaffected by loss-gain framing.

A large interdisciplinary body of research on human judgment and decision making documents systematic deviations between prescriptive decision models (i.e., how individuals should behave) and descriptive decision models (i.e., how individuals actually behave). One canonical example is the loss-gain framing effect on risk preferences: the robust tendency for risk preferences to shift depending on whether outcomes are described as losses or gains. Traditionally, researchers argue that decision makers should always be immune to loss-gain framing effects. We present three preregistered experiments

Reorganizing Hospital Cancer Care In Nepal.

While mortality rates for major common cancers- of the lung, breast, stomach, ovary, and lymphomas-- have declined significantly in high-income countries over the last decade, comparable rates for these malignancies have not fallen in Nepal. The explanations for the high-income country mortality trends are multiple and certainly include incidence reductions, but better treatments are also contributory. How to bring to Nepal the global lessons in achieving better cancer care is uncertain. We need to create an environment of ideas and a powerful vision to meet the needs for better major cancer m

[A SCENARIO MODEL FOR PRELIMINARY BUDGET AND ECONOMIC PRIORITIZATION OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGIES IN AN URBAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM].

INTRODUCTION: Standardized health technology assessment should support managerial prioritization in the context of restored outpatient demand, active disease detection, and modernization of urban healthcare. Urban healthcare systems need a model that can preliminarily estimate which disease classes generate preventable burden and where standards or technologies may have the highest scenario-based economic potential. The aim was to develop and test a scenario model for budget and economic prioritization of health technologies using standardized indicators of incident morbidity, resource pressur

The Organization and Operation of Inferior Temporal Cortex.

Inferior temporal cortex (IT) is a key part of the ventral visual pathway implicated in object, face, and scene perception. But how does IT work? Here, I describe an organizational scheme that marries form and function and provides a framework for future research. The scheme consists of a series of stages arranged along the posterior-anterior axis of IT, defined by anatomical connections and functional responses. Each stage comprises a complement of subregions that have a systematic spatial relationship. The organization of each stage is governed by an eccentricity template, and corresponding

Fighting for menstrual equity through period product pantries.

BACKGROUND: Menstruators facing period poverty often struggle with menstrual hygiene and waste management, which can result in harmful short- and long-term health outcomes such as urinary tract infections, yeast infections, and vulvar contact dermatitis. Research indicates that 42% of menstruators in the United States have difficulty affording period products. Traditional methods of distributing period products through social services may unintentionally undermine menstruators' agency, leading to disempowerment and inefficient resource allocation. Period product pantries are a novel approach a

A New Model for Bone Health Management in Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy-The Predict & Prevent Project.

Objective: The Italian Drug Agency (AIFA) Determination n. 589 of 2015 (Note 79) establishes that the use of bisphosphonates or denosumab is necessary for the primary prevention of bone fractures in postmenopausal patients with early breast cancer (EBC) undergoing adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET). Since adherence to the 2015 AIFA recommendation was still very low in 2019, a new bone health management model was identified to improve adherence to this recommendation. Methods: The aim of this project (Predict & Prevent) was to increase the percentage of patients with early breast cancer (EBC) with

Complications of appendectomy and cholecystectomy in acute care surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Acute care surgery (ACS) was initiated two decades ago to address timeliness and quality in emergency general surgery. We hypothesized that ACS has improved the management of acute appendicitis and biliary disease. METHODS: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of outcome studies for emergent appendectomy and cholecystectomy from 1966 to 2017, comparing studies prior to and following ACS implementation, were performed. RESULTS: Of 1,704 studies, 27 were selected for analysis (appendicitis, 16; biliary pathology, 7; both, 4). Following ACS introduction, the complic
