In this study, we developed a mouse model and characterized the effects of intranasal inoculation of virulent Brucella melitensis strain 16M and its lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is used to treat immune thrombocytopenia resulting from a variety of autoimmune and nonautoimmune diseases such as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, and posttransfusion purpura. IVIG is a limited resource and although considered safe, may nevertheless carry some risk of transferring disease. OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical characteristics, treatment outcome, and complications of patients with adult onset Still's disease (AOSD) in our local Chinese population.

Toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1) was purified to apparent homogeneity by chromatofocusing and affinity chromatography. The amino acid composition of the toxin was very similar to that reported for TSST-1 by other investigators. The amino-terminal amino acid was serine. The effects of Bestatin, a low molecular weight metabolite of Streptomyces olivoreticuli on the human and mouse/rat immune system, have been studied in detail.
