BACKGROUND: Due to various climatic conditions in different parts of Iran, presenting of various kinds of human myiasis is expected. Despite of a few case series, most papers related to myiasis are case reports originated from various parts of Iran. This study discusses on different clinical features of myiasis in Iran and description of one case from Tehran as a representative to nosocomial infection in Iran.

We describe a new case of accidental intestinal myiasis by Eristalis tenax in Spain. Only about 20 cases have been reported worldwide, two of them occurring in Spain. A 51-year-old patient with nonspecific abdominal pain and occasional diarrhoea expelled larvae in her stool. Macroscopic analysis of these larvae revealed morphology compatible with that of Eristalis tenax. The larva analysis showed its autofluorescence as parasitological feature described for the first time.

Gingival myiasis was found in a 4-5-months lamb which was brought to the surgical clinic of the Veterinary Faculty of Kirikkale University due to a wound in its mouth. Eleven larvae were collected from lamb's gums. The larvae were identified as the third stage larvae of Wohlfahrtia magnifica.

BACKGROUND: Pin-site myiasis is a rare complication of external fixation of open fractures of the tibia.
METHODS: Case report and literature review.

The objective of this study is to describe the case of a patient presenting advanced epidermoid carcinoma of the penis associated to myiasis. A 41-year-old patient presenting with a necrotic lesion of the distal third of the penis infested with myiasis was attended in the emergency room of our hospital and was submitted to an urgent penectomy. This is the first case of penile cancer associated to myiasis described in the literature. This case reinforces the need for educative campaigns to reduce the incidence of this disease in developing countries.

OBJECTIVE: To measure the residues of spinosad and chlorhexidine in the tissues of sheep after treatment of blowfly strike.
PROCEDURE: Fourteen sheep with natural myiasis and 12 with artificial infestations of Lucilia cuprina larvae had the wool removed over their infestations and were treated with an aerosol wound dressing containing spinosad and chlorhexidine. Sheep were killed up to 14 days after treatment and residues of the chemicals measured in tissues.

A 54-year-old male farmer residing in Chunchon, Korea, complaining of blood tinged discharge and tinnitus in the left ear for two days, was examined in August 16, 1996. Otoscopic examination revealed live maggots from the ear canal. The patient did not complain of any symptoms after removal of maggots. Five maggots recovered were identified as the third stage larvae of Lucilia sericata (Diptera: Calliphoridae). This is the first record of aural myiasis in Korea.
