Soft tissue-RADS scoring system for musculoskeletal (MSK) tumor and tumor-like lesions is recently published. The system includes diagnostic MRI flowcharts and algorithms for lipomatous masses, cyst-like or high-water content masses, and indeterminate-solid appearing masses with consistent and standardized management recommendations. MSK radiology and cancer imaging training commonly provides the essential skills needed to render appropriate prospective diagnosis for many non-neoplastic tumor-like lesions and various commonly encountered sarcomas. Such trained readers may benefit from addition

One of the main applications of bone graft materials is filling the gap after the surgical removal of bone cancer or tumors. Insufficient healing commonly leads to non-union fracture which could lead to cancer resurgence or infection. Emerging 3D printing of on-demand bone graft biomaterials can deliver personalized solutions with minimized risk of relapse and recurrence of cancer after bone removal surgery. This research aims to explore 3D printed calcium phosphate cement (CPC) based scaffolds as novel anti-cancer drug delivery systems to treat bone cancer. For the study, various 3D printed C

Osteogenic sarcoma is the central malignant bone neoplasm affecting the bones of arms and legs and rarely the soft tissues outside the bones. Historically, amputation was the chief surgical technique; currently, the popular standard is limb salvage surgery (LSS), although both procedures' effect on 5-year-event survival, 5-year disease-free survival rates (DFS) and the local recurrence is uncertain. Therefore, this meta-study aimed to establish the relationship between the effect of LSS and amputation in subjects with osteogenic carcinoma. A systematic survey till January 2021 to know the effe

BACKGROUND: Primary bone lymphoma is a rare type of lymphoid neoplasm with favorable prognosis, where Primary Non Hodgkin Lymphoma of bone (PB-NHL) is most common with the subtype. Amongst PB-NHL, diffuse large Bcell lymphoma represents the majority of cases. The mandible is a very uncommon site of involvement, presenting as a painful bone mass with high suspicion of osteomyelitis.
METHODS: We report the case of a 45-year-old male with no significant past medical history who was admitted to the hospital with a large right jaw mass and pain after recent tooth removal. The original tissue biops

BACKGROUND: The rebound effect after stopping treatment with denosumab may be associated with rapid loss of the gains in bone mineral density achieved with treatment, high levels of bone remodeling markers, the occurrence of vertebral fractures, and even hypercalcemia.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-year-old osteoporotic Caucasian woman suffered from a fracture of her second lumbar vertebra in 2004. From January 2005, she was treated with denosumab for 9 years, with good densitometry results for her hip and lumbar areas, and no fractures over the last 6 years of treatment. Ten months after the treat

Low-grade central osteosarcoma (LGCOS) is a very rare low-grade malignant neoplasm that is often confused with a variety of benign fibro-osseous lesions. It rarely involves the small tubular bones of the feet. We present an unusual case of LGCOS arising in the third metatarsal bone of a 16-year-old boy. The radiographic appearance was suggestive of a benign lesion. An open biopsy was performed and the initial diagnosis was fibrous dysplasia. The patient underwent curettage of the lesion and packing of the bony defect with a synthetic bone substitute. Histologically, the curetted specimens cons

Infantile cortical hyperostosis, also known as Caffey's disease or Caffey-Silverman syndrome, is an uncommon clinico-pathological lesion of unknown etiology and uncertain histogenesis. One of the most striking features is the early age of patients at the onset of the disease, showing swelling of the soft tissues overlaying bones, hyperirritability, and, subsequently, periosteal new bone production. The natural history of the disease proves to be self-limiting. Multiple areas are involved in the majority of cases. These polyostic forms are easily clinically diagnosed. But in rare monostic prese

The aim of this study was to evaluate the extent and duration of the revascularization process in spongiosa plugs when a fibrin sealant was used. 20 patients with tumour-like lesions, benign tumours and tumours with a potential for malignant transformation were studied. After intralesional tumour removal, the defect was filled with homologous spongiosa either combined with or without a fibrin sealant, according to a prospective randomization. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up examinations were performed within 1 week, and 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 8, 12, 24 and 36 months after surgery. Those pa

Soft-tissue osteochondromas are rare, benign tumours developing in the soft tissues. Diagnosis is challenging however, as the differential includes malignancy. As simple excision is curative, early recognition by clinical and radiological evaluation will help avoid unnecessary surgery. A 43-year-old gentleman presented to us with a painful lump on the plantar aspect of his foot. Initial imaging suggested bony involvement of the lesion, raising concerns of malignancy. Further investigation demonstrated the bony abnormalities to be stress fractures, caused by altered forces due to the lump. The

OBJECTIVE: To compare two potential diagnoses of a temporal bone pseudotumour: an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour and Wegener's granulomatosis.
METHODOLOGY: A case of Wegener's granulomatosis that mimicked an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour is reported. The clinical presentation, staging of the disease, histology, and follow-up are analysed.
RESULTS: Histopathology of the temporal bone failed to provide an accurate diagnosis, even after immunocytochemical analyses. The diagnosis of Wegener's granulomatosis was suspected after biopsy of a pulmonary mass and was confirmed by the presen

BACKGROUND: Bone and soft-tissue sarcomas are uncommon, and their location in the foot is extremely rare. While limb salvage has become the standard of care in the treatment of sarcoma in an extremity, the unique anatomy of the foot presents challenges in reconstructing a viable and functional limb.
METHODS: Between 1998 and 2005, we used free microvascularized osteomyocutaneous fibular grafts to reconstruct the defects created after extensive midfoot resection in six consecutive patients with a primary malignant tumor. In all but one patient, the extent of the resection involved at least two

An antibody, GC-17, thoroughly characterized for its specificity for estrogen receptor-beta (ER-beta), was used to immunolocalize the receptor in histologically normal prostate, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, primary carcinomas, and in metastases to lymph nodes and bone. Comparisons were made between ER-beta, estrogen receptor-alpha (ER-alpha), and androgen receptor (AR) immunostaining in these tissues. Concurrently, transcript expression of the three steroid hormone receptors was studied by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction analysis on laser capture-microdissected samples

INTRODUCTION: Transsphenoidal hypophysectomy is the standard surgical technique for the excision of pituitary neoplasms. Anatomy may be more obscured in brachycephalic skull types due to the crowding of soft tissue and osseous structures. We describe the unique challenges to approach the sphenoid bone and localize the correct burr hole site in severe brachycephalic dogs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single institution retrospective case series of brachycephalic dogs with pituitary-dependent hypercortisolism (PDH). Preoperative computed tomography enabled 3D-, and cross-sectional reconstruction to

UNLABELLED: Advances in diagnosis and improved methods of treatment have resulted in increasing number of long-term survivors in children with Wilms tumor. Growth and puberty are important for accumulation of bone mass; chemotherapy nad radiotherapy used in treatment for Wilms tumor can influence bone structure and physical development. Leptin plays an important role in metabolism of adipose tissue and bone mineralization. Considering that neoplasm and its treatment can affect normal development in childhood, we analysed the influence of antineoplastic treatment on bone mineralization and the

To assess the role and status of telomerase activity in benign bone tumors and tumor-like lesions, we performed telomerase assays in four giant cell tumors of bone, four fibrous dysplasias, three osteochondromas, three aneurysmal bone cysts, two osteoblastomas, one juvenile bone cyst and one myositis ossificans. A very sensitive non-radioactive TRAP assay was applied. Low level activity was detected in 7 of 18 tumor samples (38.9%), and high level activity was not detected in any of the cases. Telomerase activity was observed in all patients with osteochondromas, in two of the three aneurysmal

Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma) is a B-cell neoplasm that is typically CD5 negative. We describe the clinicopathologic, immunophenotypic, and cytogenetic features of 14 cases of CD5+ MALT lymphoma. There were 9 men and 5 women (median age, 68 years; range, 34-87 years). MALT lymphoma was initially diagnosed in salivary glands (n = 4), nasopharynx (n = 2), and 1 case each in conjunctiva, thyroid, stomach, colon, skin, lung, kidney, and retroperitoneum. Two patients had localized disease; 9 had disseminated disease with generalized lymphaden

Calvarial intraosseous hemangiomas are rare, benign vascular tumors arising from the intrinsic vasculature of bone. They account for approximately 0.2% of all benign osseous neoplasms and 2% of calvarial tumors. They most commonly present as localized, progressive scalp swelling with headache and are diagnosed using computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Reports describing the sonographic appearance of calvarial intraosseous hemangiomas are exceedingly limited, and no cases have been reported in which point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) was used for evaluation in the emerge
