The influence of tubulin-binding agents on the infiltration of murine MB6A lymphosarcoma and TA3 mammary carcinoma cells into primary rat hepatocyte cultures was studied. Colchicine, nocodazole and vinblastine reduced the number of infiltrating lymphosarcoma cells, probably by interfering with the adhesion of these cells to the exposed hepatocyte surface. The long-term maintenances of guinea pigs on diets with (a) lack of vitamin C, (b) lack of lysine, methionine and threonine or (c) with a deficiency of all the above nutrients led to the development of oesophageal hyperplasia and atrophic gastritis. These dietary insufficiences were found to favour oesophageal and gastric cancer production by NPIP with a greatly shortened tumour induction time. It seems likely that the observed features of NPIP carcinogenesis depend on the alteration of the chemistry and biochemistry of these organs provoked by the low intake of the above-mentioned nutrients.

Tumours were produced by the intracerebral injection of a clone of glial cells derived from a glioma induced transplacentally by N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea in a BD-IX rat. The effect of the cytostatic agent cyclophosphamide on the growth of several transplant generations of a GRS/A mouse mammary tumor line was studied. Cyclophosphamide caused more growth inhibition in transplant generation 6 than in other transplant generations. Transplant generation 6 represented the time of transition in the tumor line from hormone responsiveness to hormone independence. These results suggest that mammary tumors are especially sensitive to chemotherapy at the stage when the first hormone-independent cells appear in the tumor.

Leiomyosarcomas of the small intestine were found in dogs during experimental induction of gastric carcinoma by oral administration of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG). Leiomyosarcomas were found most frequenly in the duodenum and jejunum, and occasionally in the stomach but never in the ileum, colon, or rectum.
