Anti-GM1 antibodies are associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), primarily peripheral neuropathy. However, there are cases of anti-GM1 IgG antibody-positive GBS with upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. We herein report a case of gastrointestinal infection followed by subacute gait disturbance with predominant signs of UMN on a neurological examination. The serum and cerebrospinal fluid tests were positive for anti-GM1 and anti-asialo-GM1 IgG antibodies. An electrophysiological evaluation revealed normal nerve conduction and prolonged central motor conduction times. No magnetic resonance imag

A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials compared the effectiveness of corticosteroid injections with placebo injections and wrist splints for carpal tunnel syndrome, focusing on symptom relief and median nerve conduction velocity. Within 3 months of the corticosteroid injection, there was a modest statistically significant difference in symptom relief compared to placebo injections and wrist splints, as measured by the Symptom Severity Subscore of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire; however, this did not meet the minimum clinically important difference. Pain reduction with

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity problem (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopment problem in children and adolescents that can lead to long-term challenges in life outcomes if left untreated. Also, ADHD is frequently associated with Conduct Disorder (CD), and multiple research have found similarities in clinical signs and behavioral symptoms between both diseases, making differentiation between ADHD, ADHD comorbid with CD (ADHD+CD), and CD a subjective diagnosis. Therefore, the goal of this pilot study is to create the first explainable deep learning (DL) model for objectiv

OBJECTIVE: In vivo corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) is a novel, rapid, and non-invasive technique that identifies early small fiber damage and can predict the progression and development of clinical neuropathy in adults with type 1 diabetes. However, its usefulness in children is not well established. This study compared corneal confocal microscopy with neuropathic symptoms, signs, and objective measures of neuropathy for the diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy in children with type 1 diabetes.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 83 children with type 1 diabetes and 83 healthy participants

BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common nerve compression syndrome. The usage of clinical tests and nerve conduction studies (NCS), as well as ultrasonography and magnetic resonance images (MRI), have recently become widespread to diagnose CTS. This study aims to determine the alteration of the carpal tunnel volume based on disease seriousness by MIMICS 19.0 which is a three-dimensional modeling software.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: In this study, 80 wrists of 63 (47 female and 16 male) patients with MRI and NCS results among 1252 patients who applied to our hospital with wrist

Neuropathy with anti-myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) antibodies commonly demonstrates distal-dominant prolongation of nerve conduction. However, recent electrophysiological studies have shown that distal motor demyelination is not always a distinct feature. We aimed to elucidate whether the longitudinal progression of nerve impairment occurs in a distal-dominant manner. Seven patients with neuropathy with anti-MAG antibodies were enrolled. Sequential nerve conduction studies revealed nerve conduction reduction only at the wrist segment in the median nerve of the patients, but not in the u

BACKGROUND: Severe carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) readily lends itself to both clinical and electrophysiological recognition. The uncertainty sometimes is in identifying and quantifying motor involvement in mild and, perhaps, in moderate CTS. Our study aimed to evaluate F responses in mild and moderate CTS and determine the contribution of BMI to the F-wave parameters.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the clinical and electrophysiological data of patients with CTS seen at the clinical neurophysiology laboratory of Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, between 1 August 2017 and 31 July 2019 was re

INTRODUCTION: Prior work demonstrates that fibular compound motor action potential (CMAP) amplitude <4.0 mV predicts impairment of ankle proprioceptive precision and increased fall risk. Extensor digitorum brevis (EDB) inspection may present a simple clinical surrogate for CMAP amplitude.
OBJECTIVE: (1) To estimate the inter-rater reliability of assessment of EDB bulk. (2) To determine whether inspection of EDB bulk is associated with fibular CMAP amplitude.
DESIGN: Prospective inter-rater reliability study.

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) are essential to assess peripheral nerve fiber function in research models of immune-mediated neuritis. However, the current lack of standard protocols and reference values impedes data comparability across models and studies. We performed a systematic review and subsequent meta-analysis of the last 30 years of NCS of immune-mediated neuritis in Lewis-rats. Twenty-six papers met the inclusion criteria for meta-analysis. Extracted data showed considerable heterogeneity of recorded nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and compound muscle action potential (CMAP). Studies

INTRODUCTION: Currently there is no universally accepted standard of reference for the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome so it is considered a «latent class» pathology, that is, it lacks any diagnostic tests that absolutely certain the presence of disease.
METHODS: Prospective, observational and analytical study evaluating the three diagnostic methods used for carpal tunnel syndrome (clinical examination, ultrasound and electromyography). Normality values were set for each diagnostic method.
RESULTS: 50 people (14 men and 36 women) were evaluated. The clinical examination showed a positive
