Nevus Lipomatosis Cutaneous Superficialis: A Single-Center Case Series of 5 Patients.

BACKGROUND: Nevus lipomatosis cutaneous superficialis (NLCS) is a rare hamartoma of mature adipose tissue characterized by solitary or multiple, soft, skin-colored or yellowish lobules that may coalesce to give rise to plaques with a cerebriform surface. There are two clinical types: (1) multiple lesions that are usually presented in a segmental distribution and (2) a solitary papule or nodule. AIM AND OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical and histopathological features of 5 Saudi patients with NLCS. METHOD: A retrospective analysis of clinical data and histopathological findings of 5 cases of NL…

Case report of nodular melanoma within congenital melanocytic nevus- primary closure challenge.

INTRODUCTION: Congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) are present in 1-2% of newborn infants. The size of CMN defines the risk of developing melanoma which is estimated from 5-10%, especially in lesions that are located across the spine. PRESENTATION OF CASE: Herein we report a case where nodular melanoma was discovered on the periphery of medium sized CMN in a high risk patient. After complete excision, the defect was reconstructed with random pattern, triple rhomboid flap. DISCUSSION: Melanoma that arose within medium sized CMN would leave a complex posterior lower trunk defect. We used a triple

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome with Musculo-skeletal Involvement and Pulmonary Stenosis.

BACKGROUND: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare clinical entity. CASE CHARACTERISTICS: A 13-year-old Indian boy presented with characteristic cutaneous lesions, gastrointestinal malformations, skeletal involvement and pulmonary stenosis. OBSERVATIONS: Diagnosis was confirmed on skin biopsy, radiographic evaluation, colonoscopy and echocardiography. Echocardiography revealed pulmonary stenosis, an association hitherto undescribed. MESSAGE: Detailed evaluation in a patient of blue rubber bleb nerves syndrome is mandatory.

Extraordinary Large Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus Treated with Integra Dermal Regeneration Template.

Garment-like giant congenital melanocytic nevi are very rare, and those being treated are most often offered excision and split-thickness skin transplantation. Due to the risk of restricted mobility secondary to shrinkage and hypertrophic scarring of the transplant, we treated to date the largest reported giant congenital melanocytic nevus (16% total body surface area) with Integra dermal regeneration template (Integra Life Sciences, Plainsboro, N.J.), giving a more functional skin reconstruction. In addition, the dermal regeneration template had to be covered with split-thickness skin transpl…

Phakomatosis Pigmentovascularis Associated With Sturge-Weber Syndrome, Ota Nevus, and Congenital Glaucoma.

Phakomatosis pigmentovascularis (PPV) is a rare congenital malformation syndrome that is characterized by a combination of capillary abnormalities and dermal melanocytosis. We describe 3 cases of PPV combined with bilateral Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS), Ota nevus, and congenital glaucoma.Case 1 was a 2-year-old boy. Facial port-wine stains distributed along the 3 branches of his trigeminal nerves, which suggested the existence of SWS. Gray-blue patches were spread over the frontal and temporal areas of bilateral face, waist, buttocks, and thigh. Bilateral triangular alopecia was found on the tem…

Centrally located acquired bilateral nevus of ota-like macules: a bizarre pattern.

A 22-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for pigmented lesions located on her face. These had gradually increased during the past 4 years. Computed tomography (CT) of her head revealed no significant parenchymal abnormalities of temporal, maxillary and sphenoid bones or of either parietal bone. Further screening, including neurologic, ophthalmologic, orthopedic, and visceral investigations, did not reveal any abnormalities. There was no family history of abnormal cutaneous pigmentation.

Basal cell nevus syndrome showing several histologic types of Basal cell carcinoma.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS), or Gorlin Syndrome, is an autosomal dominant disorder, characterized by multiple developmental abnormalities and associated with germline mutations in the PTCH gene. Patients show multiple and early onset basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) in skin, odontogeniccysts in the jaw, pits on palms and soles, medulloblastoma, hypertelorism, and calcification of the falx cerebri. Clinical features of BCCs in these patients are indistinguishable from ordinary BCCs. However, some patients show variable histologic findings in subtypes of BCCs, and only one case associated with …

Small bowel involvement in blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome: MR imaging features.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare condition which is characterized by multiple venous malformations that may affect several organs. Gastrointestinal lesions, which mostly involve the small bowel and distal colon, may be responsible for gastrointestinal bleeding, causing more frequently chronic anemia. We report herein two cases of BRBNS causing gastrointestinal bleeding which were investigated by means of MR imaging. All venous malformations showed markedly high signal intensity on fat-suppressed T2-weighted MR images. In addition, extraintestinal venous malformations displayed…

Acrochordon-like basal cell carcinomas in patients with basal cell nevus syndrome.

Basal cell nevus syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by multiple basal cell carcinomas, along with numerous other documented clinical features. Acrochordons (or skin tags) are common benign neoplasms that are appropriately left untreated in most patients. We describe two patients with known BCNS who were found to have multiple BCCs that clinically resembled acrochordons. Our findings support the biopsy of acrochordon-like growths in patients with basal cell nevus syndrome to rule out basal cell carcinoma.

Giant nevus lipomatosus superficialis with multiple folliculosebaceous cystic hamartomas and dermoid cysts.

Nevus lipomatosus superficialis (NLS) is a rare benign condition characterized by papules and nodules usually in the pelvic and sacral areas, with ectopic mature adipose tissue reaching the superficial dermis. We report the case of a 47-year-old female with large NLS in the sacral region that had been present since birth and, after an asymptomatic course for most of the time, became associated with episodes of mild pain that prompted the patient to look for medical help. After a complete resection of the cerebriform plaque, measuring 23 cm in diameter, histopathological examination revealed ty…

Treatment of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to choroidal nevus using photodynamic therapy.

A 52-year-old man sought treatment for decreased vision in his right eye for 3 weeks. Visual acuity was 20/120. Examination revealed an elevated choroidal nevus at the posterior pole. Fluorescein and indocyanine green angiographies disclosed fibrovascular pigment epithelial detachment extending under the fovea. The patient was treated by two sessions of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin. Visual acuity improved to 20/40. The fibrovascular pigment epithelial detachment area diminished and the fovea is clear of lesion. Seven months after the last treatment, visual acuity remains stable. Photo…

Follicular hybrid cyst (trichilemmal cyst and pilomatricoma) arising within a nevus sebaceus.

We report a case of follicular hybrid cyst arising in a nevus sebaceus. Histopathologic findings showed one part with the features of a trichilemmal cyst and the other part with those of a pilomatricoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of follicular hybrid cyst associated with nevus sebaceus. We consider that the cyst in our case is derived from the hair matrix and from the follicular isthmus.
