Effect of educational training about CAM-ICU on nurses' knowledge, confidence, and practice to detect delirium among critically ill patients in intensive care unit.

BACKGROUND: Delirium in the intensive care unit (ICU) is a serious complication associated with increased mortality, prolonged hospital stays, and long-term cognitive decline. Early detection through standardized assessment tools is critical to improving patient outcomes. This study evaluated the effect of an educational training program on ICU nurses' self-reported knowledge, perceived self-confidence, and comfort levels in using the Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU (CAM-ICU), as well as their observed performance in delirium assessment and documentation. METHODS: A quasi-experimental

Cognitive behavioural therapy in practice-nurse led behaviour-intervention for low back pain in German primary care - qualitative process evaluation of a feasibility study.

INTRODUCTION: There is evidence that cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is effective for patients with chronic low back pain. However, there are by far not enough CBT therapists available to meet this demand. The involvement of specially trained practice nurses could be useful for the implementation of a CBT-based therapy concept in German primary care due to better accessibility and cost-effectiveness. The aim of this pilot study is to evaluate the acceptance of this approach in a pragmatic group programme for patients with chronic back pain. METHODS: In collaboration with a psychologist, p

Assessment of eye care practices and health belief model factors among adult intensive care unit nurses in public hospitals of Amhara Region, Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Eye care is a vital aspect of overall patient health, especially in intensive care units (ICUs) where patients face a heightened risk of ocular complications. Approximately 60% of patients with tracheal tubes and lagophthalmos develop severe ocular surface diseases, such as corneal abrasions, conjunctivitis, and exposure keratopathy, due to insufficient eye protection and lubrication. These complications can adversely affect patient outcomes, including increased mortality rates, extended hospital stays, and reduced satisfaction with care. Despite the importance of effective eye car

Recommendations of good practice to prevent aspiration pneumonia in older adults at risk of oropharyngeal dysphagia living in nursing homes: A modified e-Delphi study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Aspiration pneumonia (AP) is a subset of pneumonia caused by the aspiration of food and fluids to the lungs and is highly prevalent in the older population. Oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) is one of the risk factors for AP and it is also associated with malnutrition, dehydration and poor functional outcomes. As pneumonia is the second most common infection in nursing homes (NHs) and OD represents a major concern to NH staff, good practices for the prevention of AP in older adults at risk of OD are needed. PURPOSE: The aim of this modified e-Delphi study is to build consensus among a

Steroid Use for Management of Vasoactive Resistant Shock in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Patients: Experience of the Consortium of Congenital Cardiac Care-Measurement of Nursing Practice.

BACKGROUND: Although a variety of doses and duration of hydrocortisone have been reported as a treatment modality for congenital heart surgery patients with refractory hypotension, there remains a lack of understanding of the clinical use in pediatric cardiac programs. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to describe the current practice of steroid use for refractory hypotension in postoperative congenital heart surgery patients. METHOD: Survey participants were recruited from the Consortium of Congenital Cardiac Care-Measurement of Nursing Practice. The survey focused on 4 areas: diagnosis

The hearing screening experiences and practices of primary health care nurses: Indications for referral based on high-risk factors and community views about hearing loss.

BACKGROUND: In South Africa, primary health care is the first point of contact with the health system for at least 85% of the population, yet early hearing detection and intervention continues to be elusive in these settings. Nurses at community level may, therefore, be missing an opportunity to identify prelingual infants with hearing losses and alter their developmental trajectory. AIM: To determine primary health care nurses' experiences, practices and beliefs regarding hearing loss in infants. SETTING: The study was conducted in the eThekwini District of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. MET

Prone position ventilation combined with high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy in patients with pulmonary infection: a retrospective study on evidence-based nursing practice.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary infections are a common and serious clinical condition, particularly affecting critically ill patients, and effective respiratory management is crucial for recovery. This study examined the clinical and nursing outcomes associated with prone position ventilation (PPV) combined with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy in patients with pulmonary infection. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 200 patients with pulmonary infection admitted to two tertiary hospitals between January 2022 and January 2024. On the basis of the respiratory support actually

Knowledge and practice of surgical site infection prevention and associated factors among nurses working in public hospitals of Sodo town, Wolaita Zone, Southern Ethiopia.

Surgical site infection (SSI) is a common healthcare-associated infection that increases morbidity, hospital stay, and healthcare costs. Nurses play a key role in SSI prevention through infection control practices, but their knowledge and practice vary, especially in low-resource settings. Local evidence is needed to guide interventions and improve patient outcomes. To assess the knowledge and practice of nurses regarding surgical site infection (SSI) prevention and identify associated factors among nurses in surgical units of public hospitals in Sodo Town, Wolaita Zone, and Southern Ethiopia.

Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling-Having That Conversation: A Constructivist Grounded Theory Study Exploring the Experiences of Nephrology Nurses' Practice in Kidney Supportive Care in Canada.

BackgroundDialysis as treatment for kidney failure can result in significant physical and psychosocial symptom burden. Kidney supportive care (KSC), encompassing advance care planning (ACP), is an approach to care involving early identification and treatment of symptoms that improves the quality of life of people receiving dialysis. However, ACP is underused and often initiated late in the illness. The delay or lack of engagement in KSC by nephrology nurses until near the end of life may result in people receiving care that is discordant with their values, wishes, and preferences.PurposeThe pu

Achieving balance between implementing effective infection prevention and control practices and maintaining a home-like setting in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs nursing homes.

Nursing homes present a unique challenge for implementing infection prevention and control practices while striving to maintain a home-like environment. Medical devices such as urinary catheters and central venous catheters have become a part of nursing home care but can predispose residents to associated infections. Because evidence-based prevention bundles were implemented, catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) were monitored in all U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) nursing homes, and outcomes were evaluated.
