BACKGROUND: Cat scratch disease (CSD) is a common infectious disease, however its association with a disciforme keratitis is to our knowledge a previously unreported ocular complication.

Over a period of 6 years, 23 patients (4 males and 19 females: mean age 56 years) who presented dry eyes developed 33 sterile corneal ulcers. Treatment included occlusion of the eyes or bandage soft contact lenses, prophylactic topical administration of antibiotics, punctal occlusions and currently available tear substitutes. The conservative treatment of solitary rectal ulcer is generally unsatisfactory. Six patients, aged 27-54 years, with recurrent solitary rectal ulcer were treated with topical administration of sucralfate in a daily dose of 2 g twice a day for 6 weeks. Four patients experienced complete relief of symptoms and the remaining two patients had marked improvement. Uncontrolled studies have indicated that topically applied capsaicin may be a safe and effective treatment for postherpetic neuralgia. We carried out a clinical trial of 1 alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol [1 alpha(OH)D3] at a dose of 1.0 microgram a day on 7 patients with psoriasis vulgaris. These patients had been treated by topical applications of corticosteroids before this study without improvement, and during the clinical trial, treatment of topical corticosteroids was continued on 6 of the 7 patients. Four of 7 patients showed complete remission and marked improvement and 2 additional patients showed minimal improvement of their skin lesions during and after the treatment with 1 alpha(OH)D3. Adenotonsillectomy is usually curative, but there is emerging evidence that topical nasal steroids can also be effective for some children and may avoid the need for surgery. BACKGROUND: Anal sphincter spasm contributes to the appearance of postoperative pain following hemorrhoidectomy.
AIM: To determine the efficacy of topical diltiazem in the control of post-hemorrhoidectomy pain.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A randomized, prospective, experimental, double-blind study was conducted on 2 groups of patients in the postoperative period of closed hemorrhoidectomy.
