The utility of the Hand Test as a quick, reliable measure of 100 children's personalities was assessed. The interscorer reliability of the Hand Test was estimated by both intraclass correlations and the Kappa coefficient for 100 children. Three self-rating personality inventories were administered to 33 patients who had recovered from panic disorder associated with agoraphobia and to 33 healthy subjects matched for sociodemographic variables. Differences in parental bonding between patients with pure major depression, mixed anxiety-depression and pure anxiety disorders were investigated in 272 consecutive outpatients. A low parental care score seemed to be the best discriminating variable between the mixed group and the 3 other groups. This study supports previous family and twin studies as well as clinical studies emphasizing the mixed group as a special disorder group, possibly with a different etiology. The role of the father in child development seems to be particularly important.

To characterize females with bulimia nervosa and alcoholism, this study compared the social and family backgrounds, as well as the clinical symptoms of alcoholics with bulimia and patients with bulimia only. The associations between giving a history of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in children and a range of mental health, interpersonal, and sexual problems in adult life were examined in a community sample of women.
