The present work focuses on the growth phase regulated expression of biopterin transporter gene (BT1) from the LD1 locus on chromosome 35 of Leishmania donovani. Tyrosylprotein sulfotransferase (TPST), the enzyme responsible for the sulfation of tyrosine residues, has been identified and characterized in submandibular salivary glands. Autoantibodies directed against aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are well described in adult polymyositis/dermatomyositis. However, the characteristics of antibodies against other tRNA and tRNA-associated proteins have not been well defined. In this study, we identified novel autoantibodies to total tRNAs in patients with systemic rheumatic diseases and characterized the structure that was recognized by anti-tRNA antibodies. We identified fifteen patients sera that immunoprecipitated the deproteinized cognate tRNA. Two of them were identified as having previously well-defined anti-PL-12 antibodies.

We have recently reported a new family of nuclear autoantibodies in a subset of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. These antibodies bind to a nuclear envelope polypeptide(s) of approximately 200 kD, the exact identity of which was not established. In this study, we show that all of these autoantibodies are directed against a 210-kD integral membrane glycoprotein of the nuclear pore.

This report concerns the characterization of bullous pemphigoid antigen (BPA) in cultured cells derived from a human squamous cell carcinoma (SCC cells) as identified by sera of 9 patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP). Immunoglobulin G from 5 of 9 BP sera bound the cell surfaces of SCC cells with a punctate staining pattern by immunofluorescence. Adult Onchocerca volvulus recovered for excised nodules by dissection or treatment with collagenase have been used as a source of RNA for in vitro translation experiments. RNA was purified using either the hot phenol/SDS procedure or the guanidine isothiocyanate protocol. Immunoprecipitation experiments performed on in vitro products demonstrate a marked heterogeneity in responses by individed human infection sera. Further immunoprecipitation experiments demonstrate cross reactivity between O. volvulus and other filarial nematodes.

Two monoclonal antibodies (MoAb) have been isolated from two different F344 rats immunized with normal BALB/c mouse lung homogenates. The MoAbs 273-34A and 411-201B demonstrate similar staining properties when used in immunohistochemistry and have been shown to bind to endothelial cells in the lung using immunogold electron microscopy.
