Nebuchadnezzar's Transformation Related to Modern Plastic Surgery.

Metamorphosis is a rare theme in Hebrew tradition, yet the transformation of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4 offers profound insights into themes of humility, redemption, and renewal. This study explores Nebuchadnezzar's beastly transformation, marked by long hair, overgrown nails, and animalistic behavior, as a metaphorical framework for modern plastic and reconstructive surgery. His eventual restoration to human form parallels the journey of reconstructive patients recovering from disfigurement or trauma, addressing both aesthetic and psychological challenges. The transformation highlights 3

Harris's hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus) hematological parameters in different tropical locations.

This work described and compared the hematological findings of 25 clinically healthy Harris's hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus) in captivity at two different tropical locations: 16 samples from Aguascalientes, which altitude is 1878 mean sea level, and nine samples from Amecameca which altitude is 2650 mean sea level. Blood samples were collected from the brachial vein of each raptor under physical restraint. Significant differences between the two locations were found in some parameters including total, erythrocytes, heterophils, basophils, lymphocytes, and heterophil/lymphocyte ratio. When the re

Posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms: a mechanism in the relationship between early sexual victimization and incapacitated/drug-or-alcohol-facilitated and forcible rape.

Sexual assault occurring when the victim is unable to consent or resist due to the use or administration of alcohol or drugs (i.e., incapacitated/drug-or-alcohol facilitated rape; IR/DAFR) is a particularly prevalent form of victimization experienced by college women. By definition, substance use precedes IR/DAFR; however, few studies have examined other potential risk factors for IR/DAFR that may be unique from those associated with forcible rape (FR; i.e., sexual assault occurring due to threats or physical restraint). The present investigation tested a model of risk for IR/DAFR and FR sugge

Behavioural consequences of p-glycoprotein deficiency in mice, with special focus on stress-related mechanisms.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp), an efflux transporter localised in the blood-brain barrier, limits the access of multiple xenobiotics to the central nervous system. Whether it is also implemented in the transport of the endogenous glucocorticoid corticosterone is a matter of debate. The P-gp knockout mouse model [abcb1a/b (-/-)] has been shown to differ in the functioning of the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. In the present study, we investigated the behaviour of abcb1a/b (-/-) and wild-type mice with respect to stress-related tests and the effects of corticosterone. Behavioural activities

Eating behavior and BMI in adolescent survivors of brain tumor and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

OBJECTIVES: Elevated body mass index (BMI) has been reported in pediatric cancer survivors. It is unclear whether this is related to altered energy intake (via disordered eating), decreased energy expenditure (via limited exercise), or treatment-related direct/indirect changes. The aims of this study are to describe the occurrence of overweight and obesity, exercise frequency, and the extent of disordered eating patterns in this sample of survivors, and to examine relationships among BMI, eating patterns, exercise frequency, and demographic and disease and treatment-related variables to identi

Current standards for the objective assessment and management of posterior cruciate ligament tears: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the primary restraint to posterior tibial translation (PTT) and injury typically occurs during knee flexion when an external force to the tibia causes PTT. PCL injuries are often overlooked and require a comprehensive exam including a thorough history, physical examination, and imaging. This narrative review aims to review the literature on objective assessments and management of PCL tears. METHODS: A narrative review of PubMed and SCOPUS-indexed relevant literature (no date restrictions, English only, up to October 2025). Stu

Genetic vulnerability, timing of short-term stress and mood regulation: A rodent diffusion tensor imaging study.

UNLABELLED: Early stressful life events predict depression and anxiety in carriers of specific polymorphisms and alter brain responses but brain structural phenotypes are largely unknown. We studied the interaction between short-term stress during specific time-windows and emotion-regulation using a genetic animal model of depression, the Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rat. Brain structural alterations were analyzed using Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI). WKY (n=49) and Wistar (n=55) rats were divided into experimental groups: Early stress (ES): From postnatal day (PND) 27 rats were exposed to three consecu

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HY7715 Alleviates Restraint Stress-Induced Anxiety-like Behaviors by Modulating Oxidative Stress, Apoptosis, and Mitochondrial Function.

Anxiety disorders are closely associated with oxidative stress-mediated neuronal damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis. In this study, we investigated the neuroprotective effects of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HY7715 in a mouse model of restraint stress-induced anxiety, and in neuronal cell models (HT-22 mouse hippocampal neuroblast cell and SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells). Oral administration of HY7715 (1 × 109 CFU/kg/day) alleviated anxiety-like behaviors significantly, as shown by increased central exploration in the open field test and prolonged open-arm activity in the ele

Effects of high fat diet and chronic circadian challenge on glucocorticoid regulation in C57BL/6J mice.

Both high-fat diet and chronic circadian disruption have been associated with increased incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes in humans. Chronically elevated glucocorticoids, which have considerable impacts on physiological processes such as intermediary metabolism, inflammation, and fat metabolism, have also been implicated in insulin resistance associated with obesity and diabetes. In this study, the effects of high-fat diet (HFD) or chronic circadian challenge in C57BL/6J mice on basal and stress-induced corticosterone (CORT) and blood glucose levels were assessed. Baseline and stress-in

Prehospital Extrication Techniques: Neurological Outcomes Associated with the Rapid Extrication Method and the Kendrick Extrication Device.

Most emergency medical service personnel rely on one of two techniques to extricate motor vehicle crash victims; the Rapid Extrication Maneuver (REM) or the Kendrick Extrication Device (KED). The purpose of this study was to compare pre- and postextrication neurological outcomes between these two techniques. A retrospective review was conducted of all adult patients with a vertebral column injury resulting from motor vehicle collision and admitted to a Level I trauma center between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2010. Standardized pre- and postextrication neurological examinations were revie

Decreased expression of 5-HT1A in the circumvallate taste cells in an animal model of depression.

OBJECTIVE: It has been reported that stress can cause anhedonia, a core symptom of depression, and also affect taste responses of the stressed subjects. Anhedonia refers to a reduction of the ability to experience pleasure, which can be detected by decreased response to palatable food in rats. The present study was conducted to examine if stress-induced anhedonia is accompanied by changes in gene expression for taste. DESIGN: For anhedonia test, rats had free choices of cookies, a palatable food, and chow for 1h following 1h of daily restraint sessions. To examine the development of behaviora

The effect of age and unilateral leg immobilization for 2 weeks on substrate utilization during moderate-intensity exercise in human skeletal muscle.

KEY POINTS: This study aimed to provide molecular insight into the differential effects of age and physical inactivity on the regulation of substrate metabolism during moderate-intensity exercise. Using the arteriovenous balance technique, we studied the effect of immobilization of one leg for 2 weeks on leg substrate utilization in young and older men during two-legged dynamic knee-extensor moderate-intensity exercise, as well as changes in key proteins in muscle metabolism before and after exercise. Age and immobilization did not affect relative carbohydrate and fat utilization during exerci

Prenatal stress and early life febrile convulsions compromise hippocampal genes MeCP2/REST function in mid-adolescent life of Sprague-Dawley rats.

Early life neuronal insults exacerbate the development of febrile seizures and can result in epigenetic changes in the hippocampus. The MeCP2 and REST genes play a pivotal role in cognition as both contribute to neuronal function. In this study, cognitive function and expression of the MeCP2 and REST genes in the hippocampus were investigated in four groups of Sprague Dawley rats offspring viz. (1) Normally reared treated with saline (NSS). (2) Prenatally stressed treated with saline (SS). (3) Normally reared with febrile seizures (NSFS). (4) Prenatally stressed with febrile seizures (SFS).
